Bare is Australia's most highly rated end of life business - supporting Australian families through the hardest time in their life.
We are a company dedicated to providing accessible, affordable end-of-life care to change the way that Australians deal with death. Our aim is to change the game in the funeral industry which has long provided expensive, traditional, cookie cutter services that don't always meet the needs of the modern Australian.
By combining empathy with technology, we're creating end-of-life experiences that are simple, personalised and affordable. In only five years, we've served more than 50,000 families, have become Australia's most awarded end-of-life provider (with awards in customer service, innovation and digital disruption), and have built a team of more than 200 people committed to changing the way Australians deal with end-of-life. And we're just getting started.

We're looking for a Senior Engineer who's rare in the best way — still loves being on tools, but thinks like an architect.
At Bare, you won't just write code. You'll work closely with our engineering lead and product team to translate complex operational problems into elegant technical solutions — designing the systems, then helping build them. It's a role that demands both craft and clarity of thinking.
This is a chance to do meaningful work at a company that's already category-leading and still building fast.
What you'll do
- Design and architect software solutions that connect the dots between real business problems and the right technical approach
- Build and own full-stack features in Ruby on Rails — clean, testable, maintainable code
- Work directly with non-technical stakeholders to understand problems and define the right scope of solution
- Contribute to CI/CD practices, deployment workflows, and technical standards across the team
- Operate with genuine ownership in a lean, high-trust engineering team
About you
- 6–9 years of full-stack engineering experience, with strong Ruby on Rails proficiency
- You can architect a solution, not just implement one — you've led technical design decisions, not just followed them
- Strong CS fundamentals — we'd love to see a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline
- Clean, well-structured code is non-negotiable. You'd never put everything in one file and call it a day
- Solid understanding of CI/CD and modern deployment practices
- Experience working in Agile environments in fast-moving product companies
- Comfortable with ambiguity — you're energised by hard problems, not paralysed by them
- A collaborative approach with strong communication skills; you can talk to engineers and non-engineers alike
Nice to have
- Experience as a technical product owner or in a hybrid engineering/product role
- Background at an early-stage high-growth tech company (the kind where you had to think, build, and adapt fast)
Salary: $140,000–$180,000 + super, depending on experience
Most importantly — we want someone who believes in our mission. Everyone at Bare is driven by the impact of what we're doing, and we want to make sure that continues with every new hire.
