EMu Database Support Officer

About the Role
The Australian Museum is seeking an experienced database professional to join our Collection Systems team as EMu Database Support Coordinator. This role is responsible for the technical administration and day-to-day operation of the Museum's collection management system, EMu - ensuring it remains integrated with the AM's broader IT and digital infrastructure and that collection data is accessible, accurate and fit for purpose.
Working closely with the Collection Systems Manager and Collection Managers, you will administer database configuration, data standards and user support, and contribute to digitisation initiatives including the Collection Enhancement Project and DigiVol citizen science program.

You will be paid a competitive total remuneration package of $113,429 - $125,157, including an annual salary of $99,938 - $110,271, plus employer’s contribution to superannuation (currently 12%) and annual leave loading.

About you
We are seeking a technically skilled database administrator with demonstrated experience in collection management systems, ideally in a museum or cultural collections environment. You have hands-on expertise in EMu administration — including configuration, schema management, data standards and user support -and are comfortable working across multiple teams and with external vendors such as Axiell. You bring a collaborative approach, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate clearly with users of varying technical backgrounds. Experience with integrated digital infrastructure, including DAMS platforms and data integration workflows, will be highly regarded.
To be eligible for this role at the Australian Museum, you must hold full working rights in Australia and meet all essential requirements listed in the position description.
Knowledge and Experience

Demonstrated skills and experience in database administration and management, including data import, reporting, access controls and the development and implementation of data standards, preferably in a museum, natural history or cultural collections context

Demonstrated experience managing large and complex datasets, preferably of a taxonomic, ecological or multi-disciplinary nature, including experience working with collection management systems and associated digital infrastructure

Expert knowledge and experience in the administration and technical maintenance of EMu, including use of IMu, Axiell Sapphire, Crystal Reports and awareness of Linux and Fotoware

Demonstrated experience developing, maintaining and modifying multi-disciplinary museum collection management databases, including for collection management, audit and valuation, exhibition and conservation-related processes and online products

Experience liaising with external software vendors regarding technical support, upgrades and installations
Essential Requirements

Tertiary degree or equivalent experience in information technology or a relevant discipline
