## Building and Engineering Technicians (NEC)
## Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and adaptable Building and Engineering Technician to join our team and provide technical support across a range of engineering disciplines. This role suits a detail-oriented professional with hands-on experience in areas such as avionics, biomedical systems, corrosion control, shipbuilding, or mining operations. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, installation, inspection, and maintenance of complex engineering systems and assemblies. A strong technical foundation combined with the ability to work across multidisciplinary environments is essential for success in this position.
## Key Responsibilities
- Select, assess, and prepare appropriate tools and equipment to support a range of technical and engineering tasks in accordance with operational requirements
- Assemble, install, and commission new or modified assemblies, components, and control systems, ensuring all work meets relevant standards and specifications
- Collect and analyse technical data, perform complex computations, and produce accurate diagrams, schematics, and supporting documentation
- Estimate material costs and quantities for engineering projects, contributing to budget planning and resource allocation processes
- Prepare detailed designs, operational plans, and schedules for projects including mining operations, structural works, or systems installations
- Conduct and direct field tests and technical evaluations, recording outcomes and reporting findings to senior engineers or project leads
- Organise and supervise the inspection, servicing, and maintenance of machines, plant, and technical equipment to ensure continued operational efficiency
- Design and draft shipbuilding or aircraft components using technical drawing tools and CAD software, ensuring compliance with engineering specifications
- Review completed designs and finished work to verify alignment with project specifications, regulatory requirements, and contractual provisions
- Liaise with engineers, project managers, and relevant stakeholders to communicate technical requirements and resolve engineering challenges
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, test results, inspections, and design modifications in line with quality management systems
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance technical processes, safety standards, and engineering outcomes
## Required Qualifications & Skills
- Diploma or advanced diploma in Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Avionics, Biomedical Technology, or a related field
- Demonstrated experience in a technical engineering role relevant to the specific discipline (e.g. avionics, corrosion control, shipbuilding, mining, or biomedical systems)
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, technical schematics, and specifications
- Competence in the use of CAD software and technical drafting tools for design and documentation purposes
- Sound knowledge of relevant Australian standards, safety regulations, and industry codes of practice
- Ability to perform and interpret field tests, data analysis, and complex technical computations
- Strong organisational skills with the capacity to manage multiple tasks and coordinate inspections or maintenance schedules effectively
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing work that meets quality and compliance requirements
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to liaise across technical and non-technical teams
- A current and valid driver's licence may be required depending on site or operational requirements
## Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline
- Trade qualification or Certificate IV in a relevant engineering or technical field
- Experience working within defence, aerospace, resources, maritime, or healthcare engineering environments
- Familiarity with asset management systems and maintenance management software
- Project management experience or exposure to engineering project lifecycles
- Current security clearance or eligibility to obtain one, particularly for roles involving defence or government contracts
- First Aid certification and current White Card or relevant site safety credentials
