Location: Agricultrual Manufacturing Plant near Dubbo NSW
Suit skilled electrician with full working rights or on a 482 Visa seeking a new role. Visa will be taken over for the right candidate
Prior Industrial electrical experience is essential
Job Status: Full-Time, Permanent (38 hour week plus regular overtime of 10-12 hours per week approx.)
Remuneration of $145,000 to $160,000 plus super (based on skills and experience)
Reports To: Maintenance Manager
Shift Pattern: Typically, Monday to Friday, with overtime and call outs etc
Job Summary
Our client is seeking a skilled and reliable Industrial Electrician to join the team at a large-scale Agricultural processing plant. The role involves ensuring the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of electrical systems, machinery, and equipment critical to the manufacturing process. The successful candidate will perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot faults, and support upgrades to minimize downtime in a fast-paced, seasonal environment. This position requires compliance with Australian electrical standards and a strong focus on workplace safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections, testing, and preventative maintenance on electrical systems, including wiring, switchboards, motors, high-volume fans, lighting, and control panels across the facility.
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults in machinery such as conveyor systems, stands, lint cleaners, dryers, seed handling equipment, and bale presses to minimize production downtime.
- Install, commission, and modify electrical equipment and systems, including new installations and upgrades.
- Perform electrical tagging, testing, and validation in accordance with Australian Standards (e.g., AS/NZS 3000 and AS/NZS 3760) to ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
- Troubleshoot and maintain programmable logic controllers (PLCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), and other automation systems used in processing, cleaning, and handling processes.
- Respond to breakdown calls promptly, including out-of-hours support during peak ginning seasons, to restore operations quickly and safely.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams, senior operators, and external contractors to plan and execute maintenance schedules, upgrades, and continuous improvement projects.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inventory of electrical spare parts using digital systems or logs.
- Ensure all work adheres to Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulations, including risk assessments, lockout/tagout procedures, and hazardous area management (particularly regarding combustible cotton dust).
- Assist in energy efficiency initiatives, such as optimizing motor and fan systems to reduce operational costs.
Qualifications and Experience
- Trade-qualified Electrician with a Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician (or equivalent).
- Current unrestricted Electrical License (A-grade or equivalent) issued by a relevant Australian state or territory authority.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Maintenance Electrician, preferably in agricultural processing, food manufacturing or a heavy manufacturing environment.
- Experience with industrial automation, electronics, PLC fault-finding (e.g., Allen-Bradley or Siemens), VFDs, and hazardous area electrical work is highly desirable.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to nearby suppliers if required.
Skills and Attributes
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure during breakdowns.
- Proficiency in using electrical testing equipment, multimeters, and diagnostic tools.
- Knowledge of Australian electrical codes, standards, and WHS legislation.
- Good physical fitness for working in dusty, outdoor, and indoor environments, including exposure to weather, dust, and heights.
- Excellent communication skills for liaising with non-technical staff and documenting work.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team, with a proactive approach to maintenance.
- Basic computer literacy for using maintenance software and reading schematics.
