The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join a high-performing team delivering critical data capabilities for a major government program.
In this role, you will lead the design and development of scalable data solutions, working across modern cloud platforms to ingest, transform, and deliver high-quality data for analytics and reporting.
You will play a key role in shaping data architecture, improving existing solutions, and providing technical guidance to stakeholders across the program.
Engagement Details
- Location: QLD, WA, ACT, VIC, NSW, NT, SA, TAS
- Contract: 12 months + extensions
- Work Arrangement: 40‑hour working week with flexible working arrangements
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain end-to-end data pipelines and ETL solutions
- Develop scalable data ingestion and transformation processes across cloud platforms
- Build and optimise data models to support reporting and analytics use cases
- Work with structured and unstructured data from multiple sources
- Implement CI/CD pipelines and contribute to DevOps/DataOps practices
- Improve and refine existing data engineering solutions and processes
- Provide technical advice to stakeholders and non-technical audiences
- Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and networking teams
- Ensure data quality, performance optimisation, and operational stability
- Produce documentation including data flows, mappings, and runbooks
What You’ll Need
- Strong experience as a Senior Data Engineer in enterprise environments
- Hands-on experience with Azure data stack (ADF, SQL Server, Databricks, Synapse)
- Experience with ETL/ELT pipelines and large-scale data integration
- Strong SQL and Python skills (or similar scripting languages)
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps/DataOps practices
- Solid understanding of data modelling and data warehousing concepts
- Experience working across AWS and/or Azure cloud environments
- Exposure to containerisation technologies (e.g. Docker/Kubernetes)
- Experience with data visualisation tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
- Strong communication skills and stakeholder engagement experience
- Ability to work autonomously and deliver within tight timeframes
