Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Advisor
ASHM is a not-for-profit organisation seeking a highly analytical, collaborative, and influential professional to undertake the critical technical leadership role of GEDSI Advisor. This position is responsible for strengthening the integration of Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) and safeguarding across ASHM’s divisions.
Working across teams and with stakeholders in Australia and the Asia-Pacific, the role drives inclusive programming, strengthens organisational systems and practice, and supports the effective implementation of GEDSI and safeguarding principles.
About you
You are an experienced GEDSI and safeguarding professional with a strong background in health or development programs. You bring technical expertise in GEDSI, including program design, implementation, and Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL), and are confident working across diverse, cross-functional teams in fast-paced environments.
You are motivated by improving equitable health outcomes and are committed to ethical, rights-based and safeguarding approaches.

Salary: $100k – $120k + benefits

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Advisory & Integration
- Provide expert advice on integrating GEDSI and safeguarding across project design, implementation, and MEL frameworks.
- Support the inclusion of GEDSI analysis in project design, concept notes, and funding proposals.
- Co-chair and actively contribute to the GEDSI Committee to guide organisational priorities.
- Advise on diversity, equity, and inclusion within workplace practices and contribute to organisational strategies (e.g. LTD).
Capacity Building & Technical Support
- Develop and deliver training, workshops, and mentoring to strengthen GEDSI and safeguarding knowledge among staff and partners.
- Review and strengthen education and training materials to ensure inclusive and accessible design.
- Provide ongoing technical support to project teams to operationalise GEDSI principles.
Analysis, Tools & Learning
- Develop practical tools, guidance notes, checklists, and resources to support inclusive programming.
- Maintain a GEDSI tracker across the organisation to monitor progress and outcomes.
- Contribute to MEL processes by integrating GEDSI indicators and learning approaches.
Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships
- Build and maintain effective relationships with relevant community organisations to enhance the delivery of ASHM’s work.
- Represent ASHM in relevant GEDSI and safeguarding forums and technical discussions.
Safeguarding, Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with donor requirements (e.g. DFAT) and organisational safeguarding policies.
- Provide technical oversight on child protection, PSEAH, and safeguarding risk mitigation strategies in programs and projects.
- Support risk assessments and ensure safeguarding is embedded across all program and project level activities.
- Develop and maintain GEDSI-related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and streamline organisational processes and tools.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Tertiary qualifications in Gender Studies, International Development, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- 5 to 7+ years’ experience in gender equality, disability and social inclusion, safeguarding or international development.
- Demonstrated experience working on gender equality, disability and social inclusion within health programs.
- Strong understanding of GEDSI principles, intersectionality, and human rights-based approaches.
- Experience integrating GEDSI into program design, implementation, and MEL frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience in safeguarding, including child protection and PSEAH compliance.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience working in cross-cultural contexts.
- Proven ability to influence change and build capacity among diverse stakeholders.
Desirable:
- Experience working in the Asia-Pacific region.
- Familiarity with DFAT or similar donor compliance requirements.
