About the role
The Fellow is primarily responsible for the daily care of acute surgical patients and the emergency operating theatre. The Fellow is also responsible for supervising trainees and junior doctors performing ward based or emergency department consultations. The Fellow will take part in a 24-hour on call (weekday and weekend) roster as the first point of contact, supported by a rostered-on call consultant, to facilitate the transition into independent specialist practice.

Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with reference to effective communication and courtesy when interacting with patients, relatives, general public and health care colleagues.
A commitment to participate in on-going educational activities.
Sound theoretical knowledge, practical skills and ethical behaviour required of a medical practitioner in General Surgery.
To comply with and utilise contemporary human resource managements and practices, including workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination policies.
Demonstrated honesty, integrity, and respect for all patients, carers, and staff.
Mandatory Requirements
Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
Hold (or be eligible for) Fellowship in General Surgery with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) or recognised equivalent as determined by RACS. In exceptional circumstances, a candidate pending admission as Fellow may be considered.
