Role Purpose
The Systems & Cloud Engineer – Enterprise Services strengthens and evolves Francom’s core technology environment during a period of uplift, integration and transformation.
This role ensures the stability, security and performance of on‑premise and cloud infrastructure while driving modernisation to support a resilient, scalable and audit‑ready technology foundation.
The role combines hands‑on engineering with proactive improvement—uplifting systems, maturing operational practices, embedding cloud capabilities, and ensuring alignment with ISO 27001 expectations for control, continuity and security.
You will help shape how Francom builds and governs its technology environment—driving reliability, performance and security in a regulated, data‑sensitive context. This is a transformation‑focused role with opportunities to contribute to system rationalisation, cloud integration and AI implementation projects.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure, Systems & Cloud Engineering
- Maintain and support on‑premises and cloud‑based server and network infrastructure
- Administer and optimise Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365 and associated security stacks
- Manage infrastructure systems to ensure performance, resilience and best‑practice alignment
- Ensure systems are patched to current versions, balancing security uplift with minimal downtime
- Automate business processes using scripting and modern automation frameworks
- Configure systems to meet compliance and regulatory requirements, supporting secure and ethical operations
Operational Support & Incident Response
- Record, track and document incidents and service requests within the ITSM tool, including decisions and actions taken through to resolution
- Drive resolution of incidents and service requests in line with agreed SLAs
- Provide escalation support for complex technical issues
- Identify improvement opportunities and recommend technical solutions
- Design, build and enhance monitoring, alerting and automated response capabilities
- Proactively monitor infrastructure using observability tools to identify and remediate issues
Backup, Continuity & Disaster Recovery
- Manage backup systems to ensure data integrity and business continuity
- Support disaster recovery and restoration activities in high‑stakes environments
Security, Compliance & Governance
- Perform regular security patching and updates across all environments
- Drive security uplift initiatives aligned with Francom’s IT strategy
- Monitor compliance with standard operating policies and procedures
- Minimise exposure to data loss, licensing risk and operational inconsistency
- Manage vendor and guest access with secure, auditable and policy‑aligned controls
Project Delivery & Transformation
- Lead or assist in implementing new systems, technologies and enterprise services initiatives
- Collaborate with IT colleagues to balance BAU operations, technical uplift and project delivery
- Identify, recommend and implement best‑practice improvements supporting system rationalisation and cloud‑first transformation
Documentation, Training & Capability Uplift
- Develop clear technical documentation and training materials
- Mentor Technology staff, contributing to capability uplift and operational maturity
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Partner with data, applications, development and operations teams
- Coordinate external vendors for hardware, software, hosting and support services
- Support other Technology Services teams as required
Skills & Experience
Required
- 5+ years supporting and administering Microsoft Server operating systems
- Minimum 3 years administering Microsoft Azure
- 5+ years supporting and administering Active Directory
- 5+ years supporting on‑prem infrastructure including server hardware, Hyper‑V, NAS/SAN storage and Windows clustering
- Minimum 3 years supporting Fortinet network devices (firewalls, switches, WAPs)
- Strong knowledge of backup solutions and recovery processes
- Experience with security platforms including Defender XDR, Purview and SIEM solutions
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as Essential Eight, PCI and ISO 27001
- Excellent troubleshooting, communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced, high‑change environment
- Strong written and technical documentation capability
Desirable
- Microsoft certifications (Azure, Microsoft 365, Security)
- Exposure to ITIL practices and service management tools
- Experience designing and implementing Microsoft Azure Landing Zones
- Proven scripting and Infrastructure‑as‑Code experience (e.g. PowerShell)
- Background in senior or lead technical engineering roles
