About the Role
Perth Children’s Hospital & Neonatology (PCHN) are seeking an experienced and passionate Tutor Sonographer to join our Medical Imaging Department and lead the delivery of our high-quality ultrasound training program.
This is a unique opportunity to combine advanced diagnostic sonography, education, and leadership, supporting the development of the next generation of sonographers within a highly specialised paediatric environment. Our service supports outpatients, inpatients, and emergency presentations, delivering a broad range of paediatric ultrasound examinations including soft tissue, organ, musculoskeletal, and vascular imaging for a diverse patient cohort from newborns to adolescents.
As a Tutor Sonographer, you will provide clinical education, supervision, and oversight of the ultrasound training program for trainee sonographers and registrars and play a key role in:
- Developing and implementing structured learning protocols and competency frameworks.
- Delivering structured training through clinical supervision, simulation, and formal / academic education.
- Supporting trainees undertaking ASAR-accredited ultrasound programs.
- Coordinating training placements across paediatric and adult public hospital settings.
- Work closely with the Supervisor Sonographer to align training with service delivery.
You will join a supportive, high performing team and have opportunity to collaborate across the health system and contribute to advancing evidence-based practice and innovation and excellence in clinical education and service delivery. This includes collaboration with partner sites such as obstetrics, musculoskeletal, and vascular services to ensure trainees gain a broad and well-rounded clinical experience.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the training, mentoring and supervision of trainee sonographers, sonographers, and registrars, monitoring trainee progress, competencies, and performance.
- Developing and evaluating education programs to ensure alignment with best practice and patient outcomes.
- Supporting professional development through workshops, case presentations, and in-house education sessions.
- Collaborating with radiologists and multidisciplinary teams to ensure consistency in protocols, teaching approaches, and clinical standards.
- Performing advanced paediatric and neonatal ultrasound scans, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver accurate diagnostic information.
- Maintaining accurate patient records and examination data.
- Supporting quality assurance processes and equipment performance.
- Participating in research projects, quality improvement initiatives and contributing to advancements in paediatric imaging.

Based at Perth Children’s Hospital, Western Australia’s only acute tertiary paediatric centre, our dedicated Medical Imaging Team offer a comprehensive range of diagnostic imaging and interventional radiology services to children aged 0-16 years, including inpatients, outpatients, and the Emergency Department.
Our team provides a wide variety of imaging within the subspecialties of interventional radiology, paediatric cardiac catheterisations, general X-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound, and fluoroscopy.
