ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Sovereign Lives Victoria is seeking an experienced, confident and compassionate Disability Support Worker to provide individualised support to a female participant in Mornington who has complex support needs and may display significant behaviours of concern.
Due to the participant’s personal-care needs, privacy considerations and individual support preferences, a female Support Worker is preferred for this role. However, all suitably qualified and experienced applicants are welcome to apply.
This position requires a calm, resilient and highly capable Support Worker who understands that behaviours can be a form of communication. The successful applicant must be able to provide consistent, respectful and person-centred support, including during challenging situations.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The successful applicant will work closely with the participant, her support network and the broader care team to provide safe, consistent and meaningful support.
Key responsibilities may include:
- Providing one-to-one, person-centred disability support
- Supporting the participant with daily living and personal-care activities
- Following the participant’s Behaviour Support Plan, care plan and risk-management strategies
- Recognising potential triggers and applying proactive support strategies
- Responding calmly and safely to behaviours of concern
- Using trauma-informed, positive behaviour support and de-escalation approaches
- Supporting the participant’s emotional regulation, mental health and overall wellbeing
- Completing accurate progress notes, incident reports and other required documentation
- Communicating effectively with the participant, family, coordinators and management
- Maintaining professional boundaries and providing reliable, consistent support
ABOUT YOU
To be considered for this position, you should have:
- Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) or an equivalent relevant qualification
- Demonstrated experience supporting people with complex behaviours or high-intensity support needs
- A sound understanding of positive behaviour support, trauma-informed practice and de-escalation strategies
- Confidence working independently and responding appropriately during challenging situations
- Strong spoken and written English communication skills
- A calm, patient, respectful and emotionally resilient approach
- The ability to build trust while maintaining clear professional boundaries
- A reliable, consistent and culturally respectful approach to participant support
- Availability to work in Mornington and surrounding areas
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must hold or be willing to obtain:
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Current Working with Children Check, where required
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates
- NDIS Worker Orientation Module certificate
- Current Victorian driver’s licence
- Reliable and comprehensively insured vehicle
- Australian working rights
- Relevant infection-control and manual-handling training
- Medication Administration certificate, where required
