We are seeking either two Senior Associates or one Associate and one Senior Associate to join Avant Mutual's Workplace Law Team on a part-time or full-time basis. Ideally we are looking for candidates based in our Melbourne office, but we are also open to considering interstate-based candidates.
Your key responsibilities:
This role will see you deliver high quality, timely legal advice and services in respect of workplace law matters to the claims department of Avant Insurance and Avant’s members.
Reporting to the Legal Team Manager - Workplace Law Team, your role will:
- Provide a professional, thorough and effective legal service to achieve the best outcome for Avant Insurance and Avant’s members.
- Manage a caseload of workplace law issues, including compliance, termination, discrimination, investigations and disciplinary matters.
- Representation of medical practitioners (public and private sectors) and medical practices in courts, tribunals and inquiries and instructing counsel in complex cases.
- Provide oral and written legal advice to Avant members and practices and Avant Claims Managers concerning legal claims and/or complaints and also general workplace law health law advice.
- Represent members in courts and/or tribunals and/or commissions and/or inquiries.
- For a Senior Associate role, assist the Legal Team Manager – Workplace Law Team as requested in supervising and mentoring more junior Solicitors in the team and coordinating the work of the team.
- Contributing to the collective knowledge and learning of the Avant Law and Avant Insurance teams on employment, safety and discrimination issues.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Relevant tertiary legal qualifications.
- Eligible to hold an unsupervised practising certificate as a Solicitor in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Demonstrated post admission experience in employment and workplace litigation (ideally 2-4 years’ PAE for an Associate and over 5 years’ PAE for a Senior Associate), and adjacent fields (e.g. unlawful discrimination) with minimal supervision.
- The ability to express ideas effectively with proven excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High level of prioritisation, time management and self-management skills.
- Good computer literacy and competency to work in an electronic document management environment.
