- Provide independent, forward-looking assurance over the pace, quality, and risk posture of the bank’s transition to modern, cloud-native, and engineering-led platforms.
- You’ll join a high-performing, growth-focused business, backing talented individuals.
- The role is central to building an “Audit of the Future”.
Our people are customer obsessed. They prioritise the needs and satisfaction of the customer above all else. Our mindset fosters innovation and creates strong, lasting customer relationships as we strive to be the most customer centric company in Australia and New Zealand.
In the role of Senior Audit Manager (Technology Modernisation), you will report to the Head of Audit – Security that’s doubling down on winning together to deliver audits that go beyond compliance, testing whether modernisation is delivering the resilience, security, and engineering uplift it promises, and whether legacy risk is being genuinely retired rather than re-platformed.
Each day you will go above and beyond to:
- Strengthen audit’s focussed oversight of the Technology Modernisation activities within NAB across all business domains by ongoing review and assessment.
- Identify systemic risks emerging from the modernisation agenda — e.g. control debt, residual exposure, fragmented IAM, pipeline weaknesses, and architectural inconsistency — and surface these through audit findings and strategic intelligence.
- Personally lead and deliver complex audits across cloud, DevSecOps pipelines, IaC, application modernisation, platform engineering. Operate as the technical and delivery lead end-to-end.
- Ensure audits adhere to APRA CPS 234, CPS 231, ISO 27001, NIST CSF, and other relevant standards. Provide clear assurance over compliance obligations.
- Establish as a dependable Subject Matter Expert between stakeholders and Audit, by providing value-added independent risk opinions to business leadership.
- Identify systemic issues and control breakdowns. Provide actionable, risk-based recommendations that enhance cyber maturity.
What you’ll bring:
- Deep understanding of how large, regulated organisations modernise complex technology estates, including mainframe-to-cloud migrations, application re-platforming, monolith decomposition, and legacy decommissioning.
- Strong technical fluency across cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), containerisation (Kubernetes, OpenShift), microservices, APIs, and event-driven architectures.
- Hands-on understanding of DevOps and DevSecOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation), GitOps, automated testing, and shift-left security.
- Strong grasp of relevant regulatory and industry frameworks: APRA CPS 230, CPS 234, CPS 231, NIST CSF, ISO 27001, MITRE ATT&CK, and cloud-specific frameworks (CSA CCM, AWS Well-Architected, Azure CAF).
- Track record of engaging credibly with senior technology executives (CIO, CTO, Chief Architect) and translating technical risk into strategic action.
- Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology required. Industry certifications desirable: OSCP, GCIH, SABSA, CISSP, CCSP, AWS/Azure Solutions Architect, or equivalent cloud/security credentials.
We respectfully ask candidates to hold any questions for the phone interview, where we’ll discuss the role in detail and answer any questions.
