About us
Hysata is on a mission to accelerate the shift from fossil fuels to green hydrogen with the world's most efficient electrolyser. Our breakthrough capillary-fed electrolyser achieves an unprecedented 95% system efficiency (41.5 kWh/kg) – a step change from incumbent technologies, which typically sit at ~75% and already ahead of International Renewable Energy Agency's 2050 target. This leap in performance enables a radically simpler system design, slashing both energy use (opex) and system and renewables capex.
Hysata's innovation has captured global attention, including publication in Nature Communications and support from leading strategic and financial investors such as BP, POSCO and Vestas. With over 100 team members, we're a high-performing, purpose-driven company, proud to be 35% women, representing 20+ nationalities, and united by a shared mission to enable the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors such as steel, chemical manufacturing, shipping and aviation.
Having secured Australia's largest ever cleantech Series B raise of US$111 million, Hysata is scaling rapidly to bring our technology to market. With strong customer demand and a clear path to manufacturing at scale, we are on track to become a global leader in green hydrogen and put a major dent in global emissions.
About the role
Hysata is an electrolyser company moving from pilot-scale to sustained manufacturing, and we are building our Quality function. This is a hands-on Manufacturing Process Engineer role with a quality focus. The mission is simple: find quality problems early, lead the root cause analysis, and implement durable solutions at pace – across our in-house processes, suppliers, and testing. You will report to the Manufacturing Manager and work directly with team leads, operators and engineers on the floor. On-site in Australia, with potential for some supplier travel.
The Mission
- Detect – quality problems early through inspection, data, and floor presence – before they reach the next operation;
- Diagnose – lead structured root cause analysis (RCA – 5 Whys, Fishbone, 8D) to true root cause, using evidence not assumption; and
- Resolve – design, trial, and embed corrective and preventive actions that hold, then verify they worked.
Role responsibilities
- Own inspection strategy and acceptance criteria across cell material fabrication (coatings, substrates, treatments), cell assembly, and stack operations – catching defects at the earliest, cheapest point;
- Lead RCA on non-conformances, yield loss, and customer issues; drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to closure and verify they hold;
- Improve process capability through error-proofing, parameter control, and basic SPC; convert see-and-fix cycles into permanent process and design improvements;
- Manage supplier quality – incoming inspection, non-conformances, and documentation (CoC, inspection reports, traceability);
- Maintain QMS records, change control, and CAPAs so quality data is trusted and audit ready; and
- Train operators and champion a right-first-time mindset – fixing the process, not assigning blame.
What you'll bring
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a faced paced environment where everyday presents a new challenge;
- Degree, diploma, or trade qualification in engineering, materials science, chemistry, manufacturing, or related;
- 3–7+ years in a manufacturing process or quality engineering role, with a track record of solving real production problems;
- Hands-on with RCA (5 Whys, Fishbone, 8D), non-conformance management, and process improvement;
- Comfortable on the floor, biased to action, calm under pressure, and solutions-focused; and
- Desirable: electrolysers, fuel cells, or hydrogen tech; ISO 9001; SPC or data analysis; startup or scale-up experience.
What success looks like (First 12–18 Months)
- Problems detected earlier and resolved faster, with shorter see-and-fix cycles;
- RCA is rigorous and data-led; corrective actions hold and recurrence drops;
- Yield improves and rework falls as fixes move from temporary to permanent; and
- Production sees quality as a practical engineering partner, not a bureaucratic gate.
Why join us
- Build a Quality department from the ground up;
- Direct impact on commercial electrolyser deployment; and
- Work at the intersection of clean energy, manufacturing, and scale-up.
