We are currently seeking a Senior Mining Engineer (Open Pit) to join our team at the Lord Byron open pit operation. Reporting to the Quarry Manager and working an 8/6 roster, this is a unique opportunity to play a key role in establishing the mine planning and technical services capability ahead of Lord Byron OP start-up. Initially Perth office-based (Mon–Fri) for ~3 months, transitioning to 8:6 FIFO roster aligned with operations commencement. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape mine design, scheduling and systems from early-stage development through to operations.
As the Senior Mining Engineer, your key responsibilities will include:
- Develop and maintain mine designs, and schedules (short, medium and long term) aligned with operational targets.
- Translate mine planning strategies into practical, executable plans in collaboration with site contractors and Brightstar Mining Engineers.
- Provide technical leadership across drill & blast design, and sequencing to maximise productivity and value.
- Monitor mining performance against plan, identifying improvement opportunities across cost, productivity and efficiency
- Mentor and supervise Mining Engineers and Graduate Engineers, building a high-performing technical team
About You
- Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or related discipline
- Strong technical capability in open pit mine design, planning and scheduling across multiple horizons (LOM, Budget, 3MS)
- Advanced proficiency in Deswik (CAD, IS, Scheduler) essential, with ability to deliver practical, executable plans
- Demonstrated experience in hard rock open pit operations, including drill & blast and contractor interaction
- Quarry Manager / First Class Mine Manager statutory certification or progression towards one (desired)
