This opportunity
As the HSE Lead for our Vessel Services team in Australia you will provide operational support to the HSE Lead across the Australian vessel fleet, ensuring that health, safety, and environmental risks are proactively identified, effectively managed, and fully compliant with company, client, and regulatory requirements. You will play a critical role in fostering a high-performing safety culture by embedding strong HSE behaviours across all levels of the fleet and ensuring that HSE considerations are consistently integrated into operational planning and decision-making.
This is a full-time permanent position based in our Perth CBD office overlooking the beautiful Elizabeth Quay.
key responsibilities:
- Align vessel HSE activities with company-wide HSEQ strategy, including sustainability and risk management priorities.
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of HSE systems and processes across the Australian vessel fleet.
- Provide subject matter expertise, coaching and support to operational teams on all HSE matters.
- Review contractor HSE plans and procedures for vessel project scopes.
- Support Vessel Managers, and crews with the implementation of safe systems of work, hazard identification, and risk controls.
- Lead and support incident investigations using ICAM or equivalent methodology.
- Ensure vessel operations comply with applicable maritime safety regulations (e.g., ISM Code, Marine Orders, MLC), company standards, and client requirements.
Essential Qualifications
- Former or current maritime qualification (e.g., Master <3000GT, Master Unlimited, Chief Engineer).
Desirable Qualifications
- Knowledge of international standards and codes, including ISM Code, SOLAS, MARPOL, MLC and ISPS
- Designated Person Ashore (DPA) qualification
- Company Security Officer (CSO) qualification
- Certificate IV or Diploma in Work Health and Safety – or equivalent
What do we need from you?
- Experience conducting or participating in internal/external audits (e.g., ISM, ISO, Flag State Inspections, Port State Control)
- Ability to lead investigations and ensure effective corrective and preventative action
- Skilled in root cause analysis (e.g., ICAM, TapRoot, or equivalent)
- Ability to lead onshore and offshore teams and influence safe behaviours
- Deep understanding of Vessel Services risks and mitigation strategies
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with personnel of all working levels
- Undertake and manage decision-making in high-risk environments
