Beach Energy is seeking a Principal Legal Counsel to provide high quality legal advice across a broad range of complex matters. This role will support operations across multiple assets and functions, ensuring the business meets its legal obligations while enabling commercial outcomes.
Working closely with Asset Teams and corporate functions, you will identify legal risks, provide practical solutions and support informed decision making across the organisation.
As part of Beach Energy’s Legal, Corporate Affairs & Risk Division, you will help protect value, manage risk and contribute to Beach’s ongoing success as a leading energy company. About the Role
Reporting to the General Manager Risk & Legal Operations, this role is responsible for delivering legal advisory, transactional and risk management support across Beach’s operations.
This role is ideal for an experienced legal professional who enjoys working across a diverse range of commercial, regulatory and operational matters within a dynamic and collaborative environment.
Key responsibilities include:
Act as the lead lawyer supporting Beach’s assets, working closely with operational teams to deliver timely legal solutions.
Provide legal advice across joint ventures, contracts, regulatory obligations and commercial arrangements.
Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements supporting business activities.
Support acquisitions, divestments and other strategic transactions.
Manage disputes and litigation, including overseeing external legal service providers.
Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and provide clear advice to stakeholders.
Provide input into risk management processes, identifying legal risks and mitigation strategies.
Build strong relationships across the business and with external stakeholders including regulators and joint venture partners.
Support and mentor team members and contribute to the development of legal capability across the organisation.
About You
You will be comfortable working across complex and evolving legal matters while delivering clear, practical advice that supports business outcomes.
You’ll thrive in this role if you have:
Extensive experience in commercial legal practice, ideally within energy, resources or related sectors.
Demonstrable experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
Proven ability to provide practical, solutions-focused legal advice in a timely manner.
Sound understanding of regulatory, environmental and operational legal frameworks.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Demonstratable commercial acumen and ability to support strategic decision making.
Current Australian (unrestricted) practising certificate as a legal practitioner.
