We are seeking a skilled Software Engineering Team Lead strong experience managing a squad of engineers building a new user experience on top of a mixture of legacy and new APIs.
You will be responsible for the design, estimation, building, testing, and operational stability of the squad’s solutions. You’ll provide end-to-end visibility across various technical domains and facilitate collaboration among technical SMEs. Oversee daily operations, ensuring the team maintains a sustainable and predictable sprint velocity, removing technical blockers, providing solution and architectural guidance. Ensuring that code reviews and standards accelerate rather than hinder delivery. Accountable for squad system health, code security remediation and the Tech Debt backlog
Working closely with the Product Manager and Product Designer to establish technical
requirements and lead the technical direction of work on the new experience UI building on and learning from the current platform. The role involves setting (and continuously improving) technical standards and relevant patterns for software delivery whilst delivering product roadmap and drive value using technology.
Ensures smooth running of the delivery squad, focused on quality and delivery excellence.
Provides leadership to developers on principles and practices, ensures consistency in approach.
Leads by example in building quality in, aligned with product vision and value.
Responsibilities:

Hands-on with a focus on initiatives that will help 10x the team

Build a deep understanding of their product and business domain

Collaborate with Product and Design SMEs on squad roadmap and priorities
-
Execute and deliver on the squad roadmap initiatives
-
Direct technical and line management for all the engineers in the squad including code review.

Drive work and epic breakdown for effective estimation, capacity planning and delivery

Manage and unblock technical dependencies with other squads where required

Champion and adopt Architectural and Engineering best practices

Accountable to the squad System Health, Secure coding and Tech debt backlog
-
Improve engineering efficiency for the squad
-
Accountable to reporting on delivery metrics for their squad

Mentor and coach software engineers in progressive engineering practices including appropriate use of AI
-
Participate in and contribute to cross domain technology forums
-
Collaborate with Principal Engineers and Architects to drive Solution Design for initiatives
-
Escalate to tech leaders where large investment in tech debt and tech initiatives is required

Facilitate team ceremonies where necessary
Basic Qualifications
-
Must have relevant information and technology related tertiary qualification
-
Experience designing software solutions for scale
-
Experience with either high traffic customer facing websites and/or complex mobile apps
-
Experience optimising engineering practices and processes
-
Evidence of data informed decision making
-
Experience working with modern AWS services
-
Experience implementing DevOps best practices and CI/CD
-
Experience working in Agile environments

Experience mentoring senior engineers
-
Experience leading a team of engineers
-
Deep expertise in at least one programming language and tech stack
-
Understands shift-left testing and how to implement it in practice
-
Familiar with Functional and Object Oriented programming

Familiar with Document and Relational data persistence models

Familiar with Cloud Design patterns

Familiar with TDD, BDD and Domain Driven design
-
Familiar with synchronous (API) and async (Messaging) integration patterns
-
Familiar with modern Application Security Practices (OWASP)
Preferred Skills:

Full stack experience with React and/or TypeScript, Node.js, Next.js, Java
-
Experience with Microservices architecture, relational (e.g., PostgreSQL) and non-relational databases, and Cloud Design patterns.

Experience working with common Cloud Platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and implementing DevOps practices and CI/CD.

Applied Domain Driven Design, TDD and/or BDD at previous companies
-
Experience with large scale application modernisation and transformation projects
-
AWS (or other Cloud Platform) Certification
-
Working in ISO27001 and/or PCI-DSS environment
