## Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Petroleum Engineer to join our team and contribute to the safe, efficient, and cost-effective extraction of petroleum and natural gas resources. In this role, you will apply your technical expertise across all phases of project development — from initial exploration and feasibility assessment through to production and operations. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical capabilities, sound engineering judgement, and a commitment to safety and environmental responsibility. This position suits a detail-oriented professional who thrives in dynamic, multidisciplinary environments and is passionate about advancing energy resource development.
## Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with geologists, geophysicists, prospectors, and other engineers to conduct preliminary surveys of petroleum and natural gas deposits, assessing the feasibility of extraction and informing the design of the development process
- Evaluate the natural, technical, financial, and safety risks associated with each phase of project development, construction, and ongoing operations, and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks
- Determine optimal drilling locations and select appropriate equipment types, including derrick configurations and seabed platforms, to support efficient and safe extraction operations
- Develop and refine methods for controlling the flow of oil and gas from wells, ensuring operational integrity and adherence to production targets
- Prepare detailed project cost estimates, production schedules, and operational budgets, and provide regular progress reports tracking performance against key milestones and financial targets
- Coordinate the effective deployment of labour and equipment in alignment with efficiency targets, relevant legislation, safety guidelines, and environmental requirements
- Conduct technical research and provide expert engineering advice on exploration, drilling, and extraction operations to support sound decision-making across project teams
- Monitor production data, well performance, and reservoir behaviour to identify optimisation opportunities and recommend adjustments to maximise recovery rates
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with applicable Australian and industry regulatory standards, environmental obligations, and workplace health and safety requirements
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, contractors, and regulatory bodies to facilitate the smooth delivery of engineering projects from scoping through to completion
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by reviewing engineering processes, identifying inefficiencies, and implementing best-practice solutions across project operations
## Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related discipline
- Demonstrated experience in petroleum or gas engineering roles, with exposure to exploration, drilling, or production environments
- Solid understanding of reservoir engineering principles, well design, and production optimisation techniques
- Proficiency in industry-standard engineering software and modelling tools used in petroleum and gas operations
- Strong ability to interpret and analyse geological, geophysical, and production data to inform engineering decisions
- Sound knowledge of Australian regulatory frameworks governing petroleum and gas operations, including relevant environmental and safety legislation
- Excellent project management skills, including the ability to prepare cost estimates, manage budgets, and report on production and financial performance
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and present technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace health, safety, and environmental best practice
## Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualifications in Petroleum Engineering, Reservoir Engineering, or a related field
- Membership with Engineers Australia or an equivalent professional engineering body
- Experience working on offshore or remote onshore projects within the Australian oil and gas sector
- Familiarity with well completion techniques, enhanced oil recovery methods, or subsea systems
- Exposure to risk assessment frameworks and formal safety case development processes
- Experience using reservoir simulation software such as Eclipse, CMG, or similar platforms
## Why Join Us?
- Be part of a collaborative, forward-thinking team working on technically challenging and high-impact energy projects across Australia
- Access ongoing professional development opportunities, including training, industry conferences, and support for further qualifications
- Benefit from a flexible working environment that supports a healthy work-life balance across our project sites and office locations
- Enjoy a competitive remuneration package with structured performance reviews and clear pathways for career progression
- Work within an organisation that is genuinely committed to safety, sustainability, and responsible resource development
