Your role
We are seeking a self-motivated, enthusiastic and collaborative Senior Policy and Projects Officer to join the Data Development Team in the DFV Strategy & Investment Branch, within the Women, Family and Community Safety Directorate.
What you’ll do
The role provides senior specialist policy and project leadership to support domestic and family violence (DFV) data development, analysis and evidence-based reform. It leads complex DFV initiatives to improve understanding of need and demand and drives collaboration to strengthen monitoring, evaluation and public reporting. The role is responsible for translating complex DFV data and research into high impact, actionable insights that inform strategic policy, investment and whole of system improvement decisions.
What we’re looking for
We are looking for self-motivated and collaborative candidates who can:
- Lead and deliver complex DFV data development projects, including exploring novel methodologies for estimating prevalence of DFV
- Analyse, interpret and integrate DFV data from multiple sources including developing data and research repositories for government use
- Translate complex DFV evidence into high-level briefing notes and presentation for senior executives
- Build and maintain strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including policy teams, data custodians and other government agencies to support linked-data approaches and whole-of-system DFV reform
- Represent the Department in DFV-related interagency and governance forums, contributing specialist data and evidence expertise to drive strategic decision-making
Desirable but not essential skills and experience:
Proven experience applying best‑practice, trauma‑informed and ethically sound engagement approaches when collaborating with vulnerable populations, including people with disability, Aboriginal communities and other priority DFV cohorts, ensuring accessibility, safety, cultural responsiveness and inclusion in data, research and evaluation activities.
Essential requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as public policy, social sciences, social research, statistics, data analytics or relevant professional experience in DFV-related data, research or policy roles
- Experience working in DFV, demonstrating a deep understanding of DFV dynamics, outcomes for victim-survivors, and the complexity of the DFV service and justice systems
- Proven experience in leading DFV-specific data, research, evaluation or monitoring projects in a complex policy or service delivery environment
- Demonstrated ability to analyse and synthesise complex DFV data and evidence to produce high quality policy advice, research outputs and briefing notes
- Strong experience translating complex technical or sensitive DFV data and research findings into clear and accurate insights for non-technical audiences, including senior executives.
- Proven ability to lead and coordinate multi-stakeholder data projects, working collaboratively with policy teams, data custodians and other government agencies
