Production Worker / Machine Operator – Food Manufacturing

Please note: this is not a desk based role. The position involves machine operation, cleaning, forklift work and regular manual handling throughout the day.Employment Type

Full Time Position

This is a full time position based in Box Hill South.

The successful applicant will join our team on a full time basis and will be subject to an initial probationary period.

About Us

Food Milling Services Australia is a specialist dry food processing business supplying ingredients to food manufacturers and commercial customers.

We process, mill, sieve, blend and repackage dry food ingredients for a wide range of customers across Australia.

We are looking for a reliable long term employee who can either bring relevant experience or be trained into the role.

This role may suit someone who has already worked in manufacturing, warehousing, machine operation, food production or forklift work and is looking for a stable full time position.

It may also suit someone who has been working around production or warehouse operations and believes they have the initiative, reliability and practical skills to step up into a more responsible hands on role.

This role suits someone who is comfortable working independently and can stay productive without constant supervision. At times, the role may involve working alone for extended periods. At other times, you will work with other staff depending on job requirements.

Previous food manufacturing experience is highly regarded, however training will be provided to the right applicant.

Duties and Responsibilities

Operate milling, sieving and blending equipment
Set up machinery and prepare production runs
Weigh, blend and process dry food ingredients
Repack products from bulk bags into 20kg bags
Pack finished products into bags and containers
Stack and palletise finished products
Load and unload trucks, deliveries and collections using a forklift
Move raw materials and finished goods throughout the warehouse
Complete machinery clean downs between product runs
Perform daily cleaning and housekeeping of production and warehouse areas
Follow food safety, quality and workplace safety procedures
Complete production records and job documentation
Take photographs of deliveries, collections and completed work when required
Communicate professionally with customers, suppliers and transport providers regarding deliveries and collections
Assist with general warehouse and production duties as required

Essential Requirements

A current unrestricted driver's licence and practical forklift experience, including loading and unloading trucks, are essential requirements of this role.

It is also important that applicants have reliable transport to and from work.

While forklift work is not the primary focus of the position, the successful applicant must be confident and competent loading and unloading trucks, moving pallets and operating safely within a warehouse environment.

Skills and Experience

Experience in manufacturing, food production, warehouse operations or machine operation would be an advantage
Good mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn production equipment
Strong attention to detail
Reliable, organised and punctual
Able to work independently and manage daily tasks
Good written and verbal communication skills
Comfortable using computers, email and mobile phones as part of daily work
Experience using Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel would be an advantage

Food Safety and Quality

The successful applicant will be expected to work within established food safety and quality systems, including hygiene requirements, cleaning procedures, allergen controls, GMP requirements and HACCP based processes.

Experience working within HACCP and FSSC 22000 certified environments would be highly regarded.

Physical Requirements

This is an active and physically demanding role.

Applicants must be comfortable with:

Regular lifting and handling of bags weighing between 10kg and 25kg
Repacking products from bulk bags into 20kg bags
Stacking products onto pallets
Standing for extended periods
Bending, reaching and manual handling throughout the day
Wearing required PPE
Working in a warehouse and manufacturing environment

Work Environment

Dry food manufacturing and warehouse environment
Exposure to food ingredients, dust and production equipment
Combination of machine operation, cleaning, manual handling and forklift operation
Small team environment with varied day to day responsibilities

Remuneration

Starting from $30 per hour plus superannuation, with higher rates considered for applicants with strong forklift, manufacturing or food production experience.
