About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to play a critical role in shaping and safeguarding our enterprise technology environment. This is a hands-on position responsible for the design, performance, security and resilience of our infrastructure across on-premises, cloud and hybrid environments.
Operating within a regulated financial services environment, you’ll ensure our systems and operations align to APRA Prudential Standards (CPS 230, CPS 234 and CPG 235) while driving best practice across operational risk, security, and data management.
You will act as a trusted technical authority, providing leadership, mentoring and strategic direction while remaining close to the technology and outcomes that underpin business continuity, security, and performance.
Key Accountabilities
- Design, deploy and manage enterprise infrastructure across on-premises, cloud and hybrid environments
- Administer core platforms including Windows, Linux, Active Directory, Entra ID and cloud services
- Oversee storage, backup, networking and virtualisation platforms to ensure performance and reliability
- Implement and maintain data protection, privacy and classification controls in line with regulatory requirements
- Lead change, release and configuration management practices within ITSM frameworks
- Ensure operational resilience through disaster recovery, business continuity planning and risk management
- Embed and maintain security controls, vulnerability management and cyber incident readiness (CPS 234 aligned)
- Monitor, manage and report on operational risk, performance metrics and infrastructure health
- Support third-party and vendor risk management, including cloud and service providers
- Contribute to audit, compliance and regulatory reporting, ensuring alignment with APRA standards
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and capability uplift across the engineering team
- Drive continuous improvement, documentation and best practice across infrastructure and operations
Skills and experience required:
- Significant experience in infrastructure and systems engineering, including senior-level accountability.
- Background in regulated environments (financial services, insurance, banking or similar).
- Strong expertise across Windows, Linux, Active Directory and cloud platforms.
- Deep understanding of virtualisation, networking fundamentals and enterprise infrastructure design.
- Proven experience implementing security and risk frameworks (CPS 230, CPS 234, Essential Eight, ISO 27001).
- Experience with backup, recovery and resilience planning.
