About Little Nooky
Little Nooky is a growing Melbourne hospitality group operating multiple specialty cafés across Australia in partnership with award-winning Veneziano Coffee Roasters.
We are more than a café group: every detail of our business is meticulously curated, from the sustainably sourced beans in our cups to the financial discipline behind our growth. As we scale our multi site operations, we are investing in an enterprise grade finance function and that starts with this role.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a commercially minded Accountant to own the end-to-end finance function across our group entities. This is a genuine hands-on role with strategic exposure: you will manage multi entity, multi site accounting, drive statutory compliance, and partner directly with the leadership team to inform pricing, cost control, and expansion decisions.
This role operates on a hybrid model: the majority of your work can be performed remotely, with 3-4days/month required on site attendance at our 300 La Trobe St office for monthly financial reporting cycles, leadership and management meetings, audits, stocktake reviews, and other scheduled business events.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Accounting & Reporting
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for all group entities (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards (AASB)
- Manage intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and consolidated group reporting across Little Nooky entities
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, fixed asset register, and chart of accounts
Tax & Statutory Compliance
- Prepare and lodge BAS, IAS, PAYG withholding, and FBT obligations accurately and on time
- Ensure full compliance with GST, superannuation guarantee, payroll tax (VIC), and WorkCover requirements
- Coordinate year-end processes and liaise with external tax agents, accountants, and auditors
- Monitor regulatory changes (ATO, Fair Work, State Revenue Office) and advise leadership on impacts
Payroll & Workforce Costs
- Process payroll and support staff, ensuring correct application of the Hospitality Industry (General) Award, including penalty rates, overtime, and allowances
- Manage Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting and superannuation remittances
- Analyse rostering and labour cost ratios against revenue, partnering with venue managers to optimise wage spend
Operational & Management Accounting
- Daily/weekly reconciliation.
- Manage accounts payable (supplier invoices and purchasing) and accounts receivable
- Track COGS and gross margin by venue, supporting stocktake processes and wastage analysis
- Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, and rolling cash flow models
- Provide variance analysis and actionable commercial insights to the Director
Systems, Controls & Process Improvement
- Maintain and improve cloud accounting systems (e.g., Xero/MYOB) and integrations with POS, rostering, and inventory platforms
- Strengthen internal controls over cash handling, procurement, and expenditure approval
- Drive automation and process efficiency across the finance function
- Support due diligence and financial modelling for new site openings and growth initiatives
Hybrid Working Arrangement
We trust our people to work where they are most productive. This role is remote-friendly, with the following on-site requirements at 300 La Trobe St, Melbourne VIC 3000:
- Month-end and reporting cycles — in-office attendance to finalise and present financial reports
- Scheduled meetings — leadership meetings, venue manager check-ins, and external stakeholder sessions (auditors, tax agents, banking partners)
- Key business events — stocktakes, audits, system implementations, EOFY processes, and ad-hoc requirements as reasonably scheduled
The indicative split is flexible and will be agreed with the successful candidate; we expect on site attendance is typically required 3-4days per month, increasing during reporting and EOFY periods.
