Introduction:
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Legal Counsel & Manager Corporate Governance and Risk acts as the organisation’s principal legal adviser while providing strategic and operational leadership across governance, risk, compliance and high-level secretariat support to the Board.
This is a newly expanded and pivotal leadership role within EverAbility Group offered on a part time basis (0.53 FTE, 20 hours per week).

EverAbility is seeking a dynamic and driven Legal Counsel & Manager – Corporate Governance and Risk to provide strategic legal advice and leadership across governance, risk and compliance in a complex, purpose‑driven not‑for‑profit environment.
This role acts as the organisation’s principal legal adviser, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, funding agreements and industry standards across NDIS, CHSP and other State and Federal funding programs. You will safeguard the organisation through strong governance, effective risk management and sound legal oversight.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the role supports the Board and Executive through informed legal advice, robust governance frameworks and proactive risk oversight, contributing to EverAbility’s long‑term sustainability and reputation.
The role will have one direct report, a 0.8 FTE Corporate Governance and Risk Coordinator (currently advertised), a newly created position established to strengthen governance and compliance capability.
The position also provides high‑level Board secretariat support, including undertaking Company Secretary responsibilities.

- Act as EverAbility Group’s in‑house legal adviser, providing practical advice to the Board, CEO and Executive.
- Draft, review and manage contracts, funding agreements, tenders and legal documentation.
- Lead corporate governance frameworks, policies and Board secretariat functions (including Company Secretary responsibilities).
- Oversee risk management, compliance and internal controls across the organisation.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes impacting the NFP, disability and community services sectors.
- Provide governance and legal oversight for grants, funding and tender activities.
- Partner with leaders to promote a strong culture of ethics, accountability and compliance.
- Manage external legal providers where required and support continuous improvement.

About You
You are a confident, values‑driven legal and governance professional who enjoys operating at both a strategic and practical level. You bring sound judgement, integrity and a collaborative approach to complex and sensitive matters. You will have:
- A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and admission as an Australian Legal Practitioner, with a current unrestricted practising certificate (or ability to obtain one).
- Significant post‑admission experience providing legal advice in complex, regulated environments.
- Demonstrated experience supporting Boards and senior executives in governance, risk and compliance.
- Strong understanding of the not‑for‑profit, disability, aged care or community services sectors (NDIS/CHSP highly regarded).
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, practical advice.
- A proactive, solutions‑focused mindset and high professional integrity.
