Position Purpose/Summary
As an Airconditioning Mechanic at MD APPLIANCES PTY LTD, the primary responsibilities include installing, servicing, maintaining, and repairing air-conditioning systems for residential and commercial customers. The role involves diagnosing system faults, testing equipment performance, replacing defective components, and ensuring all systems operate efficiently and safely in accordance with Australian standards and manufacturer specifications. The position also requires interpreting technical drawings and manuals, conducting routine maintenance inspections, and providing technical support and advice to customers regarding the operation and maintenance of HVAC systems.
Primary Job Responsibilities and Tasks
- Installing, commissioning, maintaining, and repairing air-conditioning systems for residential and commercial applications.
- Diagnosing faults and malfunctions in air-conditioning equipment using specialised testing instruments and diagnostic tools.
- Conducting routine servicing, preventive maintenance, and performance testing of HVAC systems to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with manufacturer specifications.
- Assembling, installing, and connecting piping, condensers, compressors, evaporators, motors, thermostats, switches, and associated electrical components.
- Charging systems with refrigerants and checking systems for leaks, pressure levels, and safe operation in accordance with Australian standards and environmental regulations.
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and manufacturer manuals to determine installation procedures and system configurations.
- Dismantling defective air-conditioning units, replacing worn or damaged components, and reassembling systems to restore functionality.
- Performing electrical testing and troubleshooting on control systems, circuits, sensors, and safety devices associated with HVAC equipment.
- Ensuring all installation and maintenance work complies with workplace health and safety requirements, building codes, and relevant Australian industry standards.
- Providing technical support and advice to customers regarding the operation, maintenance, and energy efficiency of air-conditioning systems.
- Recording service reports, maintenance records, testing results, and equipment performance data accurately for company and compliance purposes.
- Coordinating with suppliers, contractors, and internal teams to ensure timely completion of installation and maintenance projects.
- Assisting with the installation and servicing of energy-efficient and smart HVAC solutions supplied by the company.
Attribute skills
- Minimum requirement of a Certificate III in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration or equivalent trade qualification.
- Full Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Licence (ARCtick) is required.
- At least 2 years of highly relevant full-time experience in air conditioning installation, servicing, maintenance, and repair.
- Strong technical skills in installing air conditioning systems, handling refrigerants, performing pipework and brazing, and using diagnostic tools such as multimeters and pressure gauges.
- Ability to test, vacuum, and commission HVAC systems to ensure proper and safe operation.
- Ability to perform preventive and routine maintenance on air conditioning systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Ability to diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults, including compressors, motors, and system components, as well as detect and repair refrigerant leaks.
- Sound knowledge of compliance requirements, including ARCtick refrigerant handling regulations, workplace health and safety (WHS) standards, and electrical safety standards.
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate service reports, job documentation, and compliance records in line with industry and company requirements.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to understand client requirements and provide appropriate technical solutions.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team, following technical instructions accurately.
- Strong problem-solving ability and a proactive work ethic.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills to meet project deadlines while maintaining high-quality workmanship.
