Monash Health's General Genetics Service are looking for individuals to join our patient focused team. The Genetic Assistant role contributes to patient care while ensuring Department of Health and Human Services mandates are met.
The role provides support to the clinical team through the collection and coordination of patient information, provision of emotional support to patients and families, and follow-up of samples and test results to ensure timely management and continuity of care.
The position also requires extensive liaison and collaboration with genetic counsellors, administrative assistants, laboratory services, and other multidisciplinary team members to support effective service delivery and patient care.
The successful candidate will be currently enrolled in the first year of a Master of Genetic Counselling course. The role requires excellent communication and customer service skills, along with intermediate computer proficiency.
We currently have a part-time fixed-term position available for 12 months, with the possibility of extension. Shifts will be rostered Monday to Friday, with no weekend work required. The position will be based on-site at Monash Medical Centre, Clayton.
You will be responsible for ensuring the patient experience is second to none and patients are treated with respect and dignity while seeking the support and services of Monash Health. Creating an excellent first impression of Monash Health, you will provide a friendly, courteous and professional greeting to all visitors to the General Genetics Service either by telephone or in person, and to support them in relation to the purpose for their contact and/or visit. Typical daily duties will include:
To work effectively as part of a team of other genetic counsellors, clinical geneticists, clinical genetics fellows, administration staff, and students.
To liaise appropriately with other hospital departments, referring clinicians, other health care providers, laboratory staff and support organisations, to ensure quality care for patients.

You are a proactive and experienced healthcare administrator who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment.
