This is an exciting, newly created role to lead a team that helps bring Boroondara’s community to life through a responsive permitting service and safe, well-managed events. In this role you will combine strategic oversight with hands-on leadership to deliver consistent, customer-focused outcomes that meet regulatory requirements while enabling vibrant community activity. This is an opportunity to shape how services are delivered, support a newly created team, and contribute to creating welcoming, active spaces across the municipality.
About the role
- This is a senior leadership role responsible for guiding the delivery of local law permits, statutory registrations and event services for our community.
- You will lead two multidisciplinary teams of both permitting and events officers and will work through your team leads to provide coaching, development, sound reasoning and technical advice. This includes day-to-day oversight and general customer service.
- Leads the regulatory permits and statutory registrations team responsible for administering permits under our local law such as footpath trading, filming, busking as well as state-mandated pet and food business registrations.
- Leads the Open Space, Events & Bookings Team to deliver small and medium (Tier 1 & 2) events for Boroondara, including street parties, park weddings, School-run and other commercial events that are easy, safe and successful in creating exciting and active spaces for community vibrancy.
- The role will work strategically across the organisation, in conjunction with the Coordinator and Manager, and build strong inter-departmental relationships, agreed ways of working, and will engage and advocate with external stakeholders.
- During peak seasonal periods (Spring/Summer) the role will roll-up its sleeves and dig-in with the teams to deliver a high-quality service our community expects of us. This includes site visits for large filming productions and events, as required.

Employment Requirements
- Tertiary qualification in Business, Event Management and/or equivalent experience in a similar field is desirable.
- Strong Leadership skills in a multidisciplinary team environment, including but not limited to mentoring, training, performance management and workforce planning.
- Proven experience leading a multidisciplinary service team within a complex operating environment, including event management and/or regulatory services.
- Applicants must have the right to work in Australia.
- Preferred applicants will be required to undergo a National Police Record Check and hold a valid Working with Children Clearance.
- Preferred applicants must hold a valid Victorian Driver’s Licence to inspect permits and events in the field, as necessary.
