Our department consists of 38 occupational therapists and support staff, working across a diverse range of inpatient, outpatient and community-facing services, including aged care, acute surgical and medical, oncology, trauma, neurology, rehabilitation, palliative care, lymphoedema and hand therapy.

The Role

This position has operational accountability for the Occupational Therapy service within St George Hospital (SGH) and reports operationally to the SGH General Manager or delegate (Allied Health Manager) and has professional accountability to the SESLHD Occupational Therapy Discipline Advisor.
The Occupational Therapy Head of Department will provide operational direction, lead, guide and manage the Occupational Therapy service across SGH and facilitate the implementation of high levels of clinical expertise in order to provide high quality care to patients/clients and their carers, consistent with NSW Ministry of Health (MoH) and South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) policies, procedures and standards. The position contributes directly to the development of policy, with consideration of the strategic context.

Selection Criteria
- Evidence of extensive clinical and management experience as an Occupational Therapist.
- Recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Professionals (State) Award, current registration with AHPRA (where applicable) and commitment to own ongoing professional development.
- Proven ability to provide high level of guidance, leadership and management of departmental resources and services.
- Demonstrated high-level written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff.
- Ability to provide leadership and direction in assisting the flexible utilisation of resources to enhance service delivery.
