About the role:
MUFG is seeking a Vice President, Know Your Customer (KYC), to join their dedicated GCIB KYC team in Sydney, Australia. - Play a central role in managing and closing internal audit issues by coordinating action plans across KYC remediation, training, programme enhancement, and process improvement initiatives.
- Work alongside the Head of GCIB KYC to deliver strategic priorities for the Oceania region, engaging with stakeholders from Australia, New Zealand, and Japanese corporate banking clients.
What you'll do:
As Vice President Know Your Customer at MUFG in Sydney you will play a vital role in supporting the management of internal audit issues through effective coordination of remediation activities. You will be responsible for monitoring progress against closure dates while ensuring all evidence is robust enough for issue resolution. Your day-to-day responsibilities include contributing to enhancements in local procedures and controls as well as performing quality control over due diligence reports.
- Coordinate and deliver agreed action plans addressing five issue management items identified by Internal Audit between November 2025 and May 2026, ensuring timely completion to high standards.
- Support the Head of GCIB KYC in embedding policy and process changes within the team by providing practical leadership and subject matter expertise.
- Monitor progress against target closure dates for remediation activities while identifying dependencies or delivery risks and ensuring evidence supports issue closure.
- Contribute to updates of local procedures, controls, training materials, and working practices as part of ongoing enhancement of the Oceania KYC programme.
- Perform quality control over KYC due diligence reports prepared by team members prior to submission for approval, ensuring customer risk assessments meet policy and regulatory requirements.
- Support responses to quality assurance findings raised by MUFG’s QA team by collaborating with relevant stakeholders to finalise outcomes and provide targeted feedback or training.
- Assist with preparation or review of onboarding, periodic review, and material ad-hoc review KYC files for existing and prospective customers across the Oceania portfolio when business demand requires.
- Proactively identify areas for improvement in KYC processes, controls, systems, or working practices based on audit findings or day-to-day operations.
- Provide coaching, training, and guidance to team members and stakeholders to embed policy changes and promote consistent understanding of financial crime control expectations.
- Engage regularly with coverage teams, credit and portfolio teams, product partners, financial crime teams (local/regional/global), internal audit teams, QC/QA teams, operations staff, and legal advisors.
What you bring:
Your proven experience as Vice President Know Your Customer will demonstrate deep expertise in AML/CTF compliance along with extensive knowledge of banking products corporate finance structures customer risk assessment principles & financial crime risk management will ensure you are well equipped for success in this role.
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in KYC AML/CTF financial crime compliance banking audit risk legal consultancy regulatory or equivalent sectors; experience in issue management remediation quality control assurance policy implementation or stakeholder coordination highly regarded.
- Degree in Economics Finance Business Commerce Accounting Law or another relevant discipline from a leading university is essential
- Solid experience in AML/CTF compliance, KYC processes, customer due diligence, issue management or financial crime compliance gained from banking or related sectors.
- A sound understanding of banking products including corporate finance structures as well as financial markets; strong grasp of customer risk assessment principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite especially MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint enabling efficient documentation analysis and reporting.
- Ability to undertake independent research and analysis regarding customers regulations banking products and financial crime risk issues.
- Clear and effective communication skills both written and verbal facilitating stakeholder engagement and report preparation.
- Strong interpersonal and presentation skills fostering collaborative relationships within diverse teams.
- Commitment to being a dependable team player who thrives in co-operative environments; enthusiasm for sharing knowledge and supporting others’ development.
- Capability to work independently prioritising multiple workstreams while supporting delivery against agreed deadlines; flexibility in adapting to changing priorities.
