The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement. We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities.

Your Impact
As a valued member of the Women’s Bail Advocacy Program, you’ll play a key role in providing high-quality paralegal and coordination support that enables the delivery of timely, culturally safe and trauma-informed bail advocacy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. You will help ensure seamless legal and program operations by keeping files, documentation, communications and case processes accurate, organised and responsive to client and stakeholder needs. Each day, you will:

Support solicitors and program staff to deliver high-quality, culturally safe legal and non-legal services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women.
Manage client files, court documents, referrals and databases, ensuring accurate and timely record keeping and compliance.
Assist clients to navigate bail processes, court attendance and legal appointments, providing practical, trauma-informed support.
Coordinate day-to-day program operations including scheduling, communications and administrative tasks across the service.
Liaise with courts, clients, families, service providers and community organisations to support integrated service delivery.
Work collaboratively across internal teams and contribute to supervision, training and continuous service improvement.

Your Story & Strengths
You are a skilled and motivated Paralegal who understands and respects the cultural, social and historical context of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. You bring strong organisational skills and experience supporting legal files, documentation and case coordination in a fast-paced environment. You are committed to culturally safe, trauma-informed practice and contributing to meaningful access to justice within a collaborative team. Key strengths include:

Currently studying Law, Human Services or a related field, or holding relevant qualifications or lived experience in the socio-legal sector.
Strong understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural values, with a focus on culturally safe service delivery.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Highly organised with strong time management and problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, adapt to change, and learn new systems while maintaining confidentiality.
Hold a current NSW Driver Licence and Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain) and be able to maintain a clear National Police Check.
