About the Payments team:
Join the team that powers every financial interaction across Stake's global platform - from seamless fiat payments to crypto deposits, withdrawals, wallets, and on-ramping experiences used by millions of customers worldwide. Operating within a platform handling ~4 billion requests per day, our systems process ~3,000 bets per second and ~95 billion bets annually, with transaction volumes continuing to grow by tens of millions every week.
As a Frontend Engineer, you'll build the real-time payment experiences that sit at the centre of this ecosystem. Using Svelte and SvelteKit, you'll develop highly responsive, server-side rendered applications that seamlessly transition to rich client-side experiences, while leveraging WebSockets to deliver live transaction updates, wallet balances, payment statuses, and instant user feedback. You'll tackle the challenges of rendering complex, data-intensive interfaces under high load, optimising performance across every interaction, and ensuring users enjoy fast, reliable, and intuitive payment journeys no matter where they are in the world.

Key Responsibilities:
- Actively engage in hands-on coding, testing, debugging, and troubleshooting to ensure code quality, scalability, and maintainability.
- Write efficient, scalable, and maintainable code, adhering to coding standards and best practices.
- Lead technical discussions and propose solutions that drive team performance and contribute to team and company OKRs.
- Innovate within the team by pushing for improvements and driving constructive changes to enhance team performance and efficiency.
- Analyse complex problems and provide effective solutions, contributing to team goals and initiatives.
- Lead and independently complete medium-sized projects or components from start to finish.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and take initiative in technical discussions.
- Share knowledge and best practices with the team, fostering a collaborative and learning-oriented environment.
- Mentor junior engineers by providing guidance and constructive feedback to support their growth.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, product managers, and engineering teams to effectively communicate technical concepts.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's/Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
- 6+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering, with a primary focus on front-end development.
- Experience with Svelte + SvelteKit or other server-side rendering frameworks (e.g. React + NextJS, Vue + Nuxt, Quasar, etc)
- Proficiency in JavaScript fundamentals, Subscriptions (WebSockets, Pub/Sub), TypeScript, GraphQL, Storybook and related technologies.
- Experience with unit testing frameworks and methodologies for frontend development (e.g., Vitest, Jest, Testing Library) to ensure code quality and reliability.
- Strong understanding of code architecture and design principles.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with teams and stakeholders.
- Analytical mindset to address complex technical challenges and devise innovative solutions.
- Positive attitude and eagerness to learn new technologies to grow as a full-stack engineer.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with blockchain technologies.
- Experience integrating with third party UI and APIs to implement product features.
- Directly champion and drive cultural change across the organisation to raise the bar for engineering excellence.
- Work alongside the top 5% of engineering talent in Australia, using a vast cloud native tech stack including AWS, Microservices, Large-Scale Distributed Systems, NATS.io, K8's, Svelte, Typescript, Node.js, Golang, ArgoCD, Datadog & Cloudflare.
- Exposure to building global, large-scale volume products which operate at thousands per second frequency (3 Billion Requests per day!).
