The Role
Reporting to the Cloud Platform Team Lead, the Platform Engineer will design and deliver enterprise-wide cloud platforms that are natively reusable and extensible across SBS Technology, supporting key products including streaming and publishing. You will own architecture decisions and help drive platform strategy, ensuring SBS’s technology foundations are scalable, secure and fit for the future, and act as a technical authority who partners with Product Delivery teams to provide the cloud, security and automation expertise they need to deliver their services efficiently.
Key responsibilities include:

Design and deliver enterprise-grade platforms that are natively reusable and extensible across SBS Technology

Enable Product Delivery teams across SBS to adopt Cloud and DevOps best practices

Create solution designs that address scalability, reliability, security and cost optimisation across SBS’s cloud platforms

Identify opportunities to improve the performance of SBS’s cloud platforms, systems and services

Identify opportunities for reducing SBS's cloud costs.

Uplift the cyber security posture of SBS’s cloud platforms, systems and services

Collaborate closely with Software Developers and QA Engineers across SBS’s streaming, publishing, data and AI teams
This is a full-time, ongoing role at Artamon office. The candidates will need full working rights in Australia to be considered for this role.
About you
We’re looking for someone who brings:

5+ years total experience working in an engineering role with 3+ years of experience with Public Cloud Providers, especially AWS.

Strong understanding of Internet Plumbing (CDN, proxies, DNS, TCP/IP stack, HTTP protocol, TLS certificates)

Strong experience automating the deployment of Cloud-based infrastructure using Terraform

Strong experience automating the deployment of applications (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, Serverless)

Strong experience with Build and Release engineering practices, including Git workflow techniques and CI/CD patterns

Strong experience with observability tools and services such as Grafana, Prometheus, Elastic, New Relic and AWS CloudWatch

Experience across scripting and programming languages (e.g. Golang, Python, bash)

Experience designing reusable, extensible, enterprise-grade platforms and owning architecture decisions and platform strategy.

The Department
SBS Technology can be thought of as the 'engine room' of SBS. Our primary role is to enable and support the production, distribution, and transmission of content across television, radio, and online platforms. Our teams achieve this by working collaboratively to design innovative solutions and deliver end-to-end services for our business stakeholders.
Under the Technology Division, the Platform Engineer works in the Infrastructure Department within the Cloud Platform team, which is responsible for building, improving and supporting all of SBS’s core infrastructure hosted in the Cloud and supporting key digital platforms and services. Cloud Platform team designs patterns and implements best practices for creating and managing infrastructure, empowers application teams to utilise Cloud to its maximum potential, and builds and maintains Continuous Integration and Delivery processes for SBS.

This role is classified as Level 7 role under SBS Australia's current Enterprise Agreement (with a base salary of upto $160,000). The successful applicant will be offered remuneration that is commensurate with their skills and experience and in alignment with this framework.
