The Opportunity
NEPEAN Power is seeking an experienced Senior Control Systems Engineer to join our Mackay-based team.
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled automation professional to play a key role in designing, developing and commissioning advanced PLC, HMI and SCADA control systems that support critical mining, mineral processing and infrastructure operations across Australia.
Working from our Mackay office, you will play a key role in delivering technically robust automation solutions while providing leadership, guidance and support to both internal stakeholders and clients. You'll have the opportunity to lead complex automation projects from concept through to commissioning, collaborate with industry-leading technical specialists, and contribute to innovative engineering solutions within a growing Australian organisation
Key Responsibilities

Take technical ownership of control system scope across multiple projects, ensuring successful project delivery and engineering excellence.

Lead, mentor and support less experienced Control Systems Engineers and technical personnel.

Design, develop and implement PLC, HMI and SCADA control system solutions.

Undertake workshop and site-based testing, commissioning and troubleshooting activities.

Provide technical automation and control system support to workshop personnel and external clients.

Develop and maintain high-quality testing, commissioning and engineering documentation.

Ensure compliance with relevant Australian Standards, client specifications and industry requirements.

Liaise with project managers, workshop teams, suppliers, consultants and client representatives.

Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, standardisation and optimisation of control system solutions.

Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across all project activities.
About You
You are a technically capable and solutions-focused Senior Control Systems Engineer with a strong background in industrial automation, mining or heavy industry environments.
Skills & Experience

Electrical Trade Qualification and/or tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering or a related discipline.

Demonstrated experience in electrical control systems and industrial automation.

Proven PLC programming, development and commissioning experience.

Experience with HMI and SCADA system development and integration.

Strong understanding of electrical equipment and hazardous area applications within Queensland mining environments.

Sound knowledge of mining, mineral processing or heavy industrial operations.

Strong troubleshooting, fault-finding and problem-solving skills.

Excellent organisational and time management abilities.

High level written and verbal communication skills.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to engineering quality.

Experience mentoring or supervising junior engineers will be highly regarded.
