Job Description
This is a key role within a complex, high-volume payroll environment, supporting the governance, compliance, and systems integrity of payroll operations across the organisation. As the Payroll Governance Analyst – Systems, you will play a critical role in ensuring payroll accuracy, award and enterprise agreement compliance, and robust system configuration across multiple workforce groups. You will work closely with Payroll, HR, Finance, IT, and external stakeholders to strengthen governance frameworks, reduce risk, and support continuous improvement in payroll systems and processes. This role offers an opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, working with detail-rich data, and contributing to meaningful improvements in payroll compliance and system capability. Please note, this is a 12-month contract opportunity.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you will support payroll governance, compliance and system integrity across a highly regulated and complex environment.
Key accountabilities include:

Assist in developing and maintaining payroll governance frameworks, policies and controls.

Monitor payroll processes to identify compliance risks, control gaps and improvement opportunities.

Support interpretation and application of Modern Awards, Enterprise Agreements and NES obligations.

Investigate payroll discrepancies including underpayments, overpayments and entitlement issues.

Assist with payroll system configuration, testing and documentation (pay rules, entitlements, EA logic).

Maintain configuration registers, change logs and system documentation for audit and transparency..

Support system upgrades, testing (UAT), migrations and post-implementation validation

Analyse payroll data to identify trends, risks and root cause issues.

Contribute to audit readiness, remediation activities and compliance reporting.

Collaborate with HR, Finance, IT and external auditors on payroll governance matters.
What You’ll Bring
You are detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working in a complex payroll and systems environment where accuracy and compliance are critical.
Key skills and experience include:

Proven experience in payroll operations, payroll governance or compliance.

Exposure to workforce management systems (UKG, Kronos or similar highly regarded).

Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation (Fair Work Act, NES, Awards, EAs, superannuation, payroll tax).

Experience interpreting enterprise agreements or industrial instruments.

Strong Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, data analysis and reconciliation).

Experience supporting payroll system configuration, testing or documentation.

Ability to analyse data and identify discrepancies, risks and root causes.
