About the role:
Cyber Security NSW is seeking a strategic and experienced communications leader to deliver high-impact communications and engagement that support and align with all-of-government cyber security priorities.
In this role, you will lead strategic messaging and stakeholder engagement that supports Cyber Security NSW’s priorities and all-of-government cyber security objectives. You will provide clear, risk-based communication that supports decision-making, strengthens governance, and enables preparedness, response and recovery across NSW Government.
You will work closely with senior leaders and partner agencies to translate complex cyber security issues into clear, risk-based narratives that resonate with executive and non-technical audiences.
Key responsibilities / About you:

Lead the development and delivery of strategic communications and engagement activities aligned to Cyber Security NSW priorities.
- Provide senior level communications advice, including executive briefings and talking points to support decision-making and leadership positioning.
- Support the Cyber Security NSW Executive during cyber and major incidents, acting as the liaison with central communications and the Minister’s Office within established governance frameworks to support consistent messaging and manage reputational and cross government risks.
- Develop communication products and approaches that support joint cyber programs and enable coordination across partner agencies.
- Lead the planning and delivery of the annual media and marketing program, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities and evaluation of effectiveness.

Build and maintain strategic relationships with senior stakeholders across NSW Government to enable coordination, alignment and shared understanding of cyber security priorities.

Translate complex technical and risk based cyber security issues into clear, accessible messaging for executive and non-technical audiences.
- Lead and develop a high performing communications team including setting priorities, building capability and driving continuous improvement.
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate (Essential requirements):

Proven ability to deliver strategic communications in complex, high-risk or government environments

Strong ability to communicate complex and technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences

Experience providing trusted, high-quality strategic advice and executive briefings to senior leaders, including Ministers’ offices or equivalent

Ability to align communications with broader organisational and all-of-government priorities
-
Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, including incident-driven demands
-
Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and align senior stakeholders across government and external partners.

Demonstrated leadership capability, including managing teams and delivering performance outcomes.

Sound judgement and resilience when managing communications in high pressure environments.

Strong understanding of governance, risk and accountability frameworks in a government context.

Willingness to support communications during cyber security incidents, including working outside standard hours as required.

Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications in communications, public relations, media, public policy or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

Must be an Australian Citizen with an ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 level security clearance, and willingness to undergo a criminal history and identity verification and ongoing probity checks as a condition of employment.

About the team - Advisory and Engagement
The Advisory and Engagement function sits within the Office of the Chief Cyber Security Officer and leads internal and external communications, stakeholder engagement, executive support and strategic coordination and governance activities for Cyber Security NSW. The team works across government to deliver clear, consistent messaging, support senior leadership, and coordinate communications and engagement during cyber incidents and all-of-government initiatives.

Salary Grade 11/12, with the base salary for this role starting at $149739 base plus superannuation
