Primary objective
Provide integrated delivery of family and child support services across the region under the Families and Regional Services Division
responsible for Child Protection and Youth; Family Support; Carer Support, Placements; and Business Support.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Undertake statutory responsibilities and exercise in accordance with the Care and Protection of Children Act and departmental policies
and procedures.
2. Apply professional expertise in social welfare to the assessment of individual, family, community issues and in the application of
appropriate methods of intervention with departmental clients.
3. Ensure the availability of reliable data through the accurate and timely recording of information on the department’s client information
and case management systems.
4. Participate in the development and implementation of family support programs.
5. Participate in the Department of Children and Families After-hours Service.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A degree of an Australian tertiary institution, which gives eligibility for membership of the Australian Community Workers Association,
the Australian Association of Social Workers, or the Australian Psychological Society, or equivalent OR Diploma of Child, Youth and
Family Intervention AND Vocational Graduate Certificate in Community Services Practice (Statutory Child Protection) OR Graduate
Certificate in Safe Communities (Child Protection).
2. Demonstrated skills in the assessment of family, interpersonal and community dynamics, the application of appropriate interventions,
including a high level of ability to conceptualise and analyse information.
3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment, including managing multiple tasks and being able to
meet deadlines.
4. Ability to apply the provisions of relevant legislation in working with children, families and individuals in a statutory relationship.
5. Demonstrated ability to communicate and work constructively within culturally diverse settings, including a demonstrated knowledge
and understanding of Aboriginal culture, family, community structures and an ability to interact effectively with people from diverse
cultures.
6. A high level of written and oral communication skills.
7. Preparedness to travel in 4WD vehicles or light planes, as required, and ability to undertake travel including overnight stays as necessary.
8. Current Northern Territory driver licence or the ability to obtain.
Further information
1. Successful P1 applicants will be appointed to the 4th increment.
2. In addition, a Child Protection Market Allowance of $7,638 per annum applies to this position, as per Determination 1019 of 2022.
3. The selected applicant will be required to hold a current Working with Children Clearance notice and undergo a criminal history check
(a criminal history will not exclude an applicant from this position unless it is a relevant criminal history).
4. Applicants should include a certified copy of their qualifications with their application.
5. Travel for up to two weeks at a time may be required, whether by road or light aircraft.
