About the Role
This pivotal role within the SEWB Counselling Team involves extensive clinical leadership and governance, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, culturally safe Social and Emotional Wellbeing services to our Aboriginal community. The Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) Team is a dedicated group of professionals providing culturally informed social and emotional wellbeing support to the Aboriginal community. The team works collaboratively to address the needs of clients, ensuring holistic care that respects and incorporates cultural practices. Together, we create a safe and supportive environment for clients, delivering interventions that promote recovery, resilience, and emotional wellness. The Work Hours of this Permanent Part-time position is open to flexibility from 0.6 FTE to 0.7 FTE based on successful applicant's preference.
Responsibilities

Provide Clinical Leadership: Lead the SEWB Counselling Team by modelling and promoting high standards of clinical practice, ensuring culturally safe, trauma-informed, and evidence-based approaches are used in all client interventions.
- Direct Clinical Care: Provide individual and group therapeutic interventions to clients, using contemporary psychological practices such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and other relevant evidence-based approaches.
- Clinical Supervision and Mentorship: Provide regular clinical supervision to team members, guiding them in delivering high-quality psychological care and supporting their professional development.
- Psychological Assessments: Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments, including cognitive, emotional, and behavioural evaluations, to inform the development of tailored treatment plans.
- Care Coordination: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, external service providers, and community members to ensure coordinated care that addresses the complex mental health needs of clients, while respecting their cultural background and community ties.
- Clinical Governance: Lead clinical governance activities within the team, ensuring adherence to best practice standards, ethical guidelines, and relevant policies. This includes ongoing review of clinical protocols, safeguarding service quality, and ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Risk Assessment and Management: Lead the development and implementation of clinical risk assessments and management plans, ensuring that all potential risks to clients or staff are proactively identified and mitigated.
- Culturally Safe Care: Ensure that all interventions are culturally responsive, supporting Aboriginal clients in a way that acknowledges their cultural identity, kinship systems, and social structures.
- Consultation and Liaison: Provide expert consultation to internal and external stakeholders on mental health issues, contributing to improved service delivery for Aboriginal clients.
- Research and Continuous Improvement: Engage in research, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement activities to enhance clinical practices and service outcomes.
- Crisis Intervention: Lead crisis response efforts within the team, providing immediate psychological support and management of acute mental health episodes when needed.
Selection Criteria
1. Qualifications:
- AHPRA Registration: Registered with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Clinical Psychologist.
2. Experience, Skills and Abilities:

Extensive Clinical Leadership: Demonstrated experience in leading and managing clinical teams within a mental health setting, particularly in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Clinical Governance Expertise: Proven ability to lead clinical governance activities, ensuring adherence to best practice standards and continuous quality improvement.
- Contemporary Therapeutic Practice: Strong experience in delivering evidence-based psychological therapies, including CBT, DBT, ACT, and trauma-informed care, with the ability to tailor approaches to meet the unique needs of Aboriginal clients.
- Care Planning Skills: Experience in developing and implementing culturally appropriate and holistic care plans for clients with complex mental health needs.
- Knowledge of Mental Health Act WA: Proficiency in applying the Mental Health Act WA in clinical settings, ensuring compliance with all legal and ethical requirements.
- Peer Supervision Experience: Demonstrated ability to provide peer supervision, mentoring, and support to clinical staff.
- Clinical Risk Management: Strong skills in clinical risk formulation, including the development and implementation of effective risk management plans.
- Psychological Assessment Skills: Extensive experience in conducting psychological assessments to inform diagnosis, treatment, and care planning for clients.
- Consultation and Collaboration: Proven ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, external service providers, and community members to coordinate comprehensive care.

- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
4. Other Requirements:

Current Working with Children Check.
- Satisfactory National Police Clearance which is not older than 6 months.
- Valid WA Drivers’ License and willingness to travel as required.
- Willingness to undergo our Pre-Employment Health Assessment (PEHA)
