Position Title: Tunnel Ventilation System Lead

Reports To: Senior Project Manager\Director of Engineering

Location: Sydney, Australia

At this time SENER is looking for a Tunnel Ventilation System Lead to join our team in Sydney, Australia. SENER would relocate the right candidate to Australia for this role.

Role Summary:

The Subway Tunnel Ventilation Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, and implementation of ventilation systems for underground transit environments. This role ensures compliance with safety standards and operational efficiency, leveraging advanced simulation tools and local design guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

System Design & Analysis
Develop ventilation solutions for subway stations, tunnels, and emergency scenarios
Perform Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations for airflow, smoke control, and thermal comfort
Standards & Compliance
Ensure all designs comply with Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) Design Manuals, NFPA 130, and applicable codes.
Prepare technical documentation, specifications, and drawings.
Project Coordination
Lead ventilation design activities across project phases (concept, detailed design, construction support)
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, fire safety).
Safety & Risk Management
Conduct emergency ventilation and smoke management studies
Validate system performance under worst-case conditions using CFD and empirical methods

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline
Experience: Minimum 10-15 years in subway or tunnel ventilation design
Strong Technical Expertise
Must have P Eng designation
10 plus years of experience working on Rail\LRT projects\Mass transit projects
Proficiency in CFD software (e.g., FDS, ANSYS Fluent)
Strong knowledge of tunnel aerodynamics
Soft Skills: Effective communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities
Must have familiarity with emergency ventilation strategies and fire life safety systems
