Are you ready to play a pivotal role in advancing precision cancer therapy? Macquarie University is seeking a Cancer Biobank Coordinator to join the Precision Cancer Therapy (PCT) Research Group within the Macquarie Medical School. This is a unique opportunity to sit at the intersection of clinical care and laboratory research, coordinating the collection and management of patient biospecimens that fuel discovery and innovation in cancer treatment.
In this role, you will be instrumental in building and maintaining a high-quality cancer biobank while contributing hands-on to molecular and cellular research programs. Working within the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences — part of Macquarie University Health, an integrated academic health sciences enterprise encompassing Macquarie University Hospital and specialist clinics, you will engage with clinicians, researchers, and higher degree research students in a vibrant, multidisciplinary environment.
This is more than a technical role. It is an opportunity to make a tangible contribution to translational research that has real-world impact on patient outcomes. If you thrive in a collaborative setting and are energised by the prospect of bridging clinical and research activities, we encourage you to apply.
Reporting to the Professor of the Precision Cancer Therapy Research Laboratory, the Cancer Biobank Coordinator will coordinate biobanking activities and provide technical expertise across the research group's operations.
Key responsibilities include:
Contributing to the strategic implementation of patient recruitment and biospecimen collection programs
Collaborating with clinicians and research scientists to ensure timely collection of patient samples and data
Undertaking database management and data analysis, including computational and statistical analysis, for the PCT Research Group
Performing complex molecular and cellular biology research techniques and related experiments
Coordinating and providing technical expertise to academic staff and HDR students with running research experiments
Implementing new technologies and changes to the use of existing technologies
Contributing to the preparation of research data for presentation and publication, and presenting results at internal and external meetings
Providing training and guidance to higher degree research students and staff in laboratory research techniques, ensuring standard operating procedures, safety, and best practice are maintained
Coordinating day-to-day laboratory operations, including monitoring and maintaining stock levels of consumables
Conducting laboratory risk assessments and preparing material safety data sheets (MSDSs) prior to sourcing new substances
Complying with relevant EEO and WHS regulations
The Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences (FMHHS) is ambitiously pushing the boundaries of progressive thinking and tackling some of the most pressing issues of our time, nationally and globally. The faculty forms part of Macquarie University Health, an integrated academic health sciences enterprise incorporating Macquarie University Hospital and primary and specialty clinics. We host active research programs across biomedical and clinical sciences, cognitive and brain sciences, health systems, and more.
You are an organised, technically skilled professional with a genuine interest in translational cancer research. You bring a blend of laboratory expertise and coordination capability, and you excel in environments that require working across clinical and research teams. You are detail-oriented and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Qualification in Science or a Health Care-related discipline (Bachelor, Masters, or PhD),
Demonstrated ability to work both with autonomy and as part of multidisciplinary research and clinical team,
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills,
Effective time management and organisational capability,
Excellent attention to detail,
Familiarity with laboratory equipment and techniques such as flow cytometry (desirable),
Experience with laboratory techniques relevant to biospecimen processing and storage (desirable), and
Previous experience working in research teams or the ability to search medical records (desirable) .
