Primary objective
To develop, administer and maintain the Student Administration Management System (SAMS) database at Centralian Middle School
(CMS), ensuring the accuracy and integrity of student records within the department database. The role is responsible for managing
the interface between the timetable and student data, generating reports, coordinating attendance processes, and providing
training to staff, while ensuring all activities are conducted in accordance with legislative requirements.

Context statement
Centralian Middle School is a government middle school in Alice Springs. It has a multicultural enrolment of around 350 students
across Years 7 to 9, including approximately 65% Indigenous students. The Student Administration Management System (SAMS)
is a database that records all aspects of student and school information, including attendance, performance and timetabling. SAMS
data is used to determine school funding, making this role critical to ensuring the accuracy and integrity of student records and
reporting.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Ensure the timely and accurate management of school data, including the maintenance of all manual and computerised student

records. This includes data entry and retrieval, ensuring the integrity, accuracy and currency of information within SAMS.
2. Extract data and setup Middle School Reports using the Student Administration Information System (SAIS).
3. Provide training and support to staff in the effective use of SAMS, including the maintenance and management of user accounts,

adherence to timelines. Ensure all information provided to NT Government and Australian Government departments,
organisations and families is accurate. Troubleshoot SAMS issues as required.

4. Input and maintain the school timetable and manage the interface between the timetabling system and student records
contained in SAMS.

5. Coordinate and implement school processes for monitoring and following up on student absences.
6. Provide support to the front office by assisting with reception duties, including answering calls, greeting visitors, and delivering

administrative support to the Principal and teaching staff, including word processing, data entry, and other task as directed by
the Business Manager.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated successful experience in the use of a complete database and system used for record keeping, timetabling and

reporting.
2. Demonstrated sound interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, with an ability to interact effectively with people

from diverse cultures and work well with a wide range of people with tact and discretion.
3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team and maintain integrity and confidentiality.
4. Proven organisational and time management skill, excellent attention to detail with the ability to work with minimal direction,

determine own work priorities, organise workflow and meet timelines in an environment of continuous change.
5. Demonstrated high level computer literacy skills, including experience with the effective use of various office applications.
