Thursdays and Saturdays. Two days. One very good gig.
The setup: Subcontracted Psychologist (ABN, your own boss) Where: Yarraville, inner-west Melbourne When:Thursdays + Saturdays, every week Pay: Solid percentage split, fortnightly, transparent
The short version
We're a small neuroaffirming practice in Yarraville working with neurodivergent kids, teens, and their families. We've got a garden, a bunch of swings, indoor rooms designed for actual nervous systems, and a clinical team that genuinely likes each other. We're looking for one more psychologist to join us on Thursdays and Saturdays.
What it's like here
The space matters to us. Therapy doesn't have to happen on a couch under a downlight — sometimes it happens on a swing, in the garden, or sprawled on the floor with a Lego pile between you. We've built the practice around that. Indoor rooms for the days when contained and quiet is what's needed. Outdoor space, garden, and serious swing time for the days it isn't.
The values matter too. We're neuroaffirming all the way down — not as a marketing line, as a clinical position. We don't run social skills groups that teach masking. We don't write reports that pathologise stimming. We're interested in regulation, connection, interest-led work, and helping kids and families actually like their lives.
We're also genuinely curious clinicians. We read the new research, we argue about it at lunch, and we're starting to look at emerging adjuncts like TMS and Red Light Therapy — so if you like learning at the edges of the field, you'll find people to talk to.
What we'd love from you
- General AHPRA registration (Psychologist, unrestricted) — this one's a hard line
- Australian working rights — sorry, we're not in a position to sponsor visas
- The usual contractor kit: ABN, indemnity insurance, Medicare provider number (or eligibility), NDIS Worker Screening, Victorian Working with Children Check, current Police Check
- Real experience with neurodivergent young people — autism, ADHD, PDA, the lot
- A neuroaffirming clinical lens you can articulate (not just claim)
- Comfort working autonomously as a contractor, and genuine enthusiasm for being part of a small team
- Willingness to do therapy outdoors when that's what the session needs
Things that'd make us extra keen
- Endorsement (clinical, ed & dev, or counselling) or board-approved supervisor status
- Solid assessment experience — especially with kids who don't present in textbook ways (girls, AFAB, twice-exceptional, late-identified)
- Training in play therapy, nature-based therapy, ACT, polyvagal-informed or PDA-informed practice
- Comfort with NDIS reports and the funding landscape that comes with them
- Interest in (or experience with) neuromodulation approaches like TMS, photobiomodulation, or neurofeedback
- Lived experience of neurodivergence — we'd genuinely love to hear from you
What's in it for you
- Two-day rhythm that fits around a life, another role, study, or kids of your own
- Referrals from families who specifically want what we do — not the leftovers from a generalist waitlist
- A workspace with a garden, swings, and rooms that don't feel clinical
- Colleagues who'll happily debrief a tricky case over coffee
- Optional supervision and peer consult
- Honest, on-time payment
- The very specific satisfaction of doing therapy with a kid mid-swing, sideways, and watching the conversation finally open up
