What you'll do:
In this position you will work collaboratively as part of a team to provide paralegal, administrative, and case-management support to Members of the Tribunal to assist with the conduct of their cases.
You will prepare documents in line with Members’ general instructions, and provide feedback to the Team Leader and/or Senior Tribunal Officer on complex or unusual matters that may require management attention.
The key responsibilities in this role include:
- Member and Guidance and Appeals Panel (GAP) support: Provide paralegal and administrative support to Tribunal Members
- Case management and analysis: Maintain and update case files using case management systems and undertake general administrative support functions.
- User engagement: Liaise with review parties in relation to cases before the Tribunal, and provide accurate and timely procedural information.
Skills and capability we need:
- Knowledge of the operations, jurisdiction, practices and procedures of the Tribunal, or an ability to quickly acquire that knowledge, and an ability to apply that knowledge when working on and liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
- Highly developed organisational skills, including an ability to manage priorities and workloads, deal with conflicting demands, meet deadlines with limited supervision, and use case management systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate clearly, accurately, and respectfully with diverse range of people withing and external to the Tribunal
- Sound judgement, ability to use initiative, develop new skills, and accept responsibility for personal development, productivity and adherence to policy and procedure.
Essential:
Completed, or substantially completed, recognised degree in Law.
Position Eligibility requirements:
- Australian Citizenship
- All employees are required to undertake an Australian Federal Police Check and a Health Assessment.
- You must be employed as an APS employee.

About our team:
Member Support Officer – Legals (MSOL) operate within a Member Services team alongside Tribunal Officers to support Tribunal operations. Member Services teams are collaborative and supportive with a focus on continuous improvement. Being in this role will mean you will work closely with a Deputy Presidents as well as assisting registry teams when required.
