## Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and experienced Drainer to join our team and contribute to the successful delivery of drainage and sewerage infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on expertise in the installation, maintenance, and design of below-ground drainage systems, as well as associated sewerage and effluent disposal systems. This role suits a trade-qualified professional who works with precision, upholds safety standards, and takes pride in delivering quality outcomes. The successful applicant will be comfortable working across a variety of residential, commercial, and civil projects in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
## Key Responsibilities
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, plans, and project specifications to determine drainage system layouts, sequencing, and required materials prior to commencing work
- Install, commission, and test below-ground drainage systems, including stormwater and sewer pipework, in accordance with relevant Australian standards and local council requirements
- Install sewerage and effluent pumping equipment, disposal systems, and associated infrastructure, ensuring correct operation and compliance with environmental regulations
- Excavate, shore, and backfill trenches safely, selecting and implementing appropriate ground support systems to protect personnel and maintain site integrity
- Identify, diagnose, and rectify faults or failures within existing drainage networks, carrying out repairs and replacements with minimal disruption to surrounding infrastructure
- Collaborate with site supervisors, civil engineers, and other trades to coordinate works, resolve on-site challenges, and ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope
- Conduct regular inspections of installed systems, identifying potential issues early and ensuring all drainage infrastructure meets performance and compliance standards
- Accurately document work completed, including maintaining site records, job sheets, and compliance documentation in line with company and regulatory requirements
- Adhere strictly to workplace health and safety legislation, including the use of personal protective equipment, safe trenching practices, and confined space protocols
- Liaise with clients, subcontractors, and local authorities as required to ensure smooth project delivery and a high standard of customer service
- Assist in estimating material quantities, managing on-site resources, and minimising waste to support efficient and cost-effective project outcomes
## Required Qualifications & Skills
- Certificate III in Draining Trade or an equivalent recognised qualification within the drainage and plumbing industry
- Current and valid Drainer's Licence (or equivalent) as required by the relevant state or territory authority in Australia
- Demonstrated hands-on experience in the installation and maintenance of below-ground drainage and sewerage systems
- Sound knowledge of relevant Australian standards, building codes, and local government requirements pertaining to drainage works
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, site plans, and engineering specifications accurately
- Competency in safe excavation and trenching practices, including the use of shoring and ground support systems
- Strong understanding of workplace health and safety obligations, including working in confined spaces and around underground services
- Proven ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment on active construction sites
- Current White Card (General Construction Induction) or equivalent site safety certification
- Valid Australian driver's licence, with the ability to travel to various project sites as required
## Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services or higher-level trade qualification with a drainage specialisation
- Experience working on civil or infrastructure-scale drainage projects, including large-diameter pipework and pump station installations
- Confined space entry and rescue certification
- Forklift or plant operation licence relevant to drainage and civil works
- Familiarity with CCTV drain inspection equipment and reporting procedures
- Experience with trenchless technology methods, such as pipe relining or pipe bursting
- First Aid and CPR certification
