About the Role
We are seeking a Product Area Lead for Authentication to own and evolve our enterprise authentication capability within the Identity & Access Management (IAM) Tech Area under Group Cyber Security Domain.
This role is accountable for the strategy, roadmap, and operational excellence of core identity lifecycle management, authentication services (including multi-factor), privileged access management, and identity-driven secure access. Your focus will be to continuously improve security, resilience, and user experience across our global network, cloud, data platforms, Saas, and private applications, all while aligning to regulatory obligations and industry best practices.
As a leader, you will shape IAM capabilities aligned with evolving threat landscape, enterprise risk objectives, and regulatory requirements- ensuring the organization remains secure, agile, and well-prepared for emerging challenges.

Product Ownership & Strategy
Own the Authentication‑as‑a‑Service product vision, strategy, and roadmap
Define and prioritise authentication capabilities across Entra ID, Ping and MFA
Balance security, usability, cost, and delivery trade‑offs
Align authentication strategy with the broader IAM and cyber security objectives
Platform & Service Leadership
Provide leadership over enterprise authentication platforms (e.g. Entra ID, PingFederate, PingAccess, PingID)
Ensure authentication services meet availability, performance, and resilience requirements
Govern authentication patterns, standards, and onboarding approaches
Drive adoption of passwordless and phishing‑resistant authentication
Delivery & Stakeholder Engagement
Partner with the wider cyber team, architecture, application, platform, and delivery teams to onboard services to authentication platforms
Act as the primary escalation point for authentication‑related risks and issues
Engage senior stakeholders to communicate roadmap, risks, and outcomes
Translate business and security requirements into authentication capabilities
Security, Risk & Compliance
Own authentication‑related security controls and risk posture
Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory obligations, and audit requirements
Support security incidents related to authentication and access
Drive continuous uplift of authentication maturity across the organisation
Team & Capability Enablement
Provide guidance and direction to engineers and delivery teams working on authentication
Uplift operational maturity through automation, documentation, and runbooks
Foster a product‑led mindset within IAM and authentication services
What will you bring?
Domain Knowledge
- Identity lifecycle management – end to end
- Entra ID, Azure and ADFS related technologies
- Ping Federate, AWS, GCP and other identity providers
- FIDO2, SAML, OIDC, SCIM and modern identity-related protocols
- Just In Time and Zero Standing Privilege (JIT, ZSP) provisioning
- Persona development across the full spectrum of human to non-human, machine, workload, container
- Best practices in privileged access management
Essential
- Led major programs of identity authentication work in complex regulated and critical infrastructure environments (e.g. Government, Defence, Telecoms, Energy, Financial)
- Led in a major authentication deployment or consolidation activity with depth to be able to articulate risks, sequencing considerations, pragmatic outcomes
- Worked experience in privileged access management uplift – e.g. deployment of privileged access workstations, or moving from standard admin accounts to JIT provisioned admin credentials
- Genuine understanding of passwordless, token-based access across a tiered workforce including frontline staff, contact centre, back office, office workers, technology and engineering.
Desirable
Relevant certifications (CISSP, CISM, Entra ID, Ping certifications, or similar)
