About Us
At Datacom, we combine technology, expertise, and talented people to help organisations thrive in a rapidly changing world. As one of Australasia's leading technology providers, we work with customers across industries to solve real-world problems and deliver meaningful outcomes.

About the Role
As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in driving a secure-by-design and automation-first culture across our Cloud and Productivity ecosystems. Positioned within the Group Security team (which reports into the CISO), this role bridges the gap between high-level security governance and hands-on technical execution. You will be the cloud engineering champion within the security business unit, helping us navigate, harden, and elevate our overall cloud security posture.
Working within a collaborative and agile environment, you’ll focus on improving cloud resilience, automating security remediation, and uplifting platform configuration compliance across enterprise environments. This role suits a highly skilled engineer who enjoys solving complex cloud-native challenges, implementing modern security controls, and mentoring team members on secure infrastructure best practices.
Our offices are based in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Adelaide and Perth. We value the collaboration of being together in person when it matters, but we fully embrace hybrid flexibility. We leave it to you and the team to figure out what work-from-home balance works best!
What You Will Do
Reporting to the CISO, your primary focus will be engineering secure cloud environments and embedding automated guardrails. You will:
-
Implement and maintain security controls across AWS and Azure cloud environments in accordance with organizational security standards.
-
Drive an “automation first” approach to build and maintain cloud security automation, infrastructure-as-code guardrails, and auto-remediation workflows.
-
Manage cloud security posture (CSPM) and configuration compliance using cloud-native and third-party security technologies.
-
Collaborate closely with Security and Architecture teams to ensure cloud platforms and operations align with security, compliance, and risk management requirements.
-
Support vulnerability management activities across the cloud ecosystem, including asset discovery, prioritization, remediation engineering, and status reporting.
-
Participate in security incident investigations and support cloud-focused threat detection and response activities.
-
Ensure infrastructure deployments strictly adhere to secure-by-design, least-privilege, and Zero Trust security principles.
-
Identify opportunities for service, product, or compliance improvements across cloud platforms and communicate strategic risk recommendations to management and the CISO.
-
Uplift automation and engineering maturity across cloud and productivity platforms using orchestration, CI/CD, and cloud-native technologies.
-
Mentor technical team members and support knowledge sharing to foster a security-conscious engineering culture across the organization.
What You Will Bring
Required Experience:
-
5+ years of IT experience, with a strong background in Cloud Engineering, Cloud Infrastructure, or DevSecOps.
-
Deep technical knowledge of AWS and Azure infrastructure, identity access management (IAM), and core cloud-native security frameworks.
-
Strong understanding of automation approaches, scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash), and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or Bicep).
-
Experience with cloud orchestration and provisioning across public cloud platforms with a focus on secure configuration and hardening.
-
Hands-on experience with cloud security technologies, configuration compliance, or cloud-focused vulnerability management tools.
-
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, particularly in diagnosing cloud misconfigurations and security risks.
-
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical cloud risks into clear engineering or business solutions.
-
Bachelor’s degree in IT, Cyber Security, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Nice to Have:
-
Cloud certifications across AWS or Microsoft Azure (especially security specialties, e.g., AWS Certified Security – Specialty or Azure Security Engineer).
-
Experience mentoring or coaching junior technical team members.
-
Exposure to agile delivery methodologies.
-
Experience improving security automation maturity within enterprise cloud environments.
