Data Engineer in the HCM Digital Solutions team will be a key enabler in building and maintaining scalable, reliable, and efficient data infrastructure for advanced analytics as part of the LANDCROS Connect Insight platform. This role focuses on designing and implementing robust data pipelines, ensuring data quality, and optimising data storage and processing for big time-series data workloads. Working closely business stakeholders, data scientists, and third-party ecosystem partners, the Data Engineer will translate business and analytics requirements into technical solutions. The Data Engineer will also ensure that data pipelines are secure, scalable, and performant, supporting real-time and batch processing needs. They will also be responsible for implementing data governance best practices, automating workflows, and monitoring systems for reliability and cost efficiency.
Key Deliverables and Responsibilities
- Act as a data engineering subject matter expert (SME) within the HCM Digital Solutions team.
- Collaborate with platform engineers, data scientists, product managers, and business stakeholders to design and implement scalable data solutions.
- Design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines to ingest, transform, and deliver data from multiple sources.
- Ensure data quality, reliability, and consistency through validation, monitoring, and automated checks.
- Drive automation initiatives to support continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) of data pipelines and workflows.
- Promote a data-first mindset and lead the adoption of best practices in data engineering across the team.
- Monitor, track, and report on data pipeline performance, latency, and availability metrics.
- Continuously improve data engineering processes and tooling based on retrospectives and evolving business needs.
- Participate in sprint planning, design reviews, and code reviews to ensure data considerations are integrated throughout the development lifecycle.
- Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies related to data integrity, scalability, and security.
Experience and Knowledge
- Strong background in data engineering, data modeling, and distributed systems for large-scale data processing.
- Hands-on experience with Snowflake, including performance optimisation, schema design, data sharing, and security best practices.
- Experience in designing, building, and optimising high-performance data pipelines, data warehouses, and analytics platforms on cloud environments (e.g., Preferably AWS, or Azure, GCP).
- Proficient in ETL/ELT processes and familiar with orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, DBT, etc.).
- Skilled in programming languages such as Python, SQL.
- Hands-on experience scaling data processing implementations using distributed data processing frameworks such as PySpark, etc.
- Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance in cloud and enterprise environments.
- Experience working with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data from diverse sources (IoT, APIs, third-party systems).
- Experience working with relational (e.g. PostgreSQL) and non-relational (e.g. InfluxDB) databases.
- Familiarity with performance tuning, cost optimisation, and monitoring in cloud-native data architectures.
- Able to define technical requirements, plan and deliver data solutions, monitor progress, and ensure high-quality outcomes.
- Previous experience working in the mining domain is a plus.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong proactive technical problem solver with the ability to align data engineering solutions with business objectives.
- Solid understanding of modern data architecture patterns (e.g., data lakehouses, Medallion architecture).
- Expertise in Snowflake, including writing efficient SQL queries, optimising virtual warehouses, and implementing advanced Snowflake features (e.g., streams, tasks, time travel, etc.).
- Excellent communication skills to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills to troubleshoot complex data issues and propose innovative solutions.
- Ability to document and maintain technical processes, ensuring knowledge sharing and operational consistency.
