The work
Reapit is Australia's leading property technology platform, used by the country's top estate agencies. We're migrating legacy PHP systems to a scalable, cloud-native .NET architecture — and we need engineers who can do the hard, detail-oriented work that makes a migration actually succeed.
That means reading undocumented PHP business logic, understanding what it's really doing, and translating it correctly into .NET. Not approximately. Correctly. The edge cases matter. The behaviour that isn't written down matters. Getting it wrong in production matters.
If that kind of precision work sounds like your thing, read on.
Two questions that matter
Describe one specific piece of legacy logic you've translated into another language, and what made it tricky.
Name the most complex feature you've shipped independently, and what made it complex.
Clear, specific answers to both — you're likely our person.
What you'll be doing
Translating real PHP business logic into .NET — accurately, including the undocumented edge cases
Designing and shipping backend services and RESTful APIs using ASP.NET Core
Owning complex features end-to-end: design, implementation, testing, documentation
Contributing to code reviews and holding a high bar for quality across the team
Working closely with Product to flag scope risks and sequencing issues early
Mentoring junior engineers on how to read and safely translate legacy logic
Within a month, you'll be shipping production code independently. Within six months, other engineers will be coming to you for guidance on the trickier parts of the migration.
Technically, you'll bring:
7+ years in backend development with .NET/C#
Strong experience with ASP.NET Core, Entity Framework, and MySQL
The ability to read and reason about legacy PHP — you won't be writing it, but you need to trust what's already there
Understanding of microservices, event-driven architecture, and distributed systems
Solid testing practices (unit, integration, E2E) and CI/CD experience
AWS exposure and familiarity with IaC tools (CloudFormation, CDK, Docker)
Comfort using AI-assisted development tooling to move faster and smarter
What your impact and success looks like
We're looking for someone who can ramp quickly and deliver from early on.
Within 1 month:
Shipping production code independently on moderately complex tickets, with minimal need for senior support
Working independently on complex features end-to-end, and delivering measurable value against the engagement's priorities without requiring extended ramp-up support
Working local environment set up, reading the codebase unsupported, and asking informed technical questions in code review and planning sessions
Within 3 months:
Strong command of the core technology stack and migration patterns in use, able to spot logic that's likely to be misread or mistranslated before it becomes a production issue
Independently owning complex features end-to-end, from design through implementation and testing, with minimal senior oversight
Raising informed, evidence-based suggestions on architecture, tooling, or process — even if the final call sits with the Staff Engineer
Holding a consistently high standard in your own code, reviews, and testing — setting an example other engineers on the team notice and follow
Working closely with Product to clarify requirements and flag scope or sequencing risks early
Within 6 months:
Your technical input shaping how features get built within your squad, with other engineers coming to you for guidance on the trickier parts of the migration
Delivering complex aspects of the migration with a high level of autonomy, including parts of the codebase nobody else has fully untangled yet
A trusted voice in technical planning and design conversations within your squad
Mentoring junior engineers on the team, particularly on how to read and safely translate legacy logic
Championing engineering quality and best practices through solution design, implementation, testing, and documentation
What you get
Competitive contract rate. Flexible working — Sydney or Brisbane, or remote, your call. And a team that will genuinely make you better at your craft.
