About the Opportunity
We’re seeking a Data Engineer to join our Data Engineering & Platforms team, supporting the design, development, and maintenance of scalable and secure data pipelines that power VicRoads’ data platform.
In this role, you’ll contribute to delivering reliable, well-governed, and accessible data to enable analytics, reporting, and business insights across the organisation. Working closely with data engineers, analysts, and key business stakeholders, you’ll help translate data requirements into effective technical solutions and support the ongoing improvement of data processes.
You’ll apply best-practice data engineering standards to build and maintain high-quality data pipelines, integrate data from multiple sources, and ensure data is accurate, secure, and fit for purpose. You’ll also play a key role in strengthening our data capabilities by contributing to reusable component and supporting governance practices.
About you
You’re a hands-on Data Engineer who takes ownership of what you build and approaches your work with a long-term mindset. You think ahead, designing scalable and maintainable solutions from the outset, and take pride in delivering high-quality, reliable data assets. You enjoy collaborating with others, continuously improving your craft, and contributing to meaningful data-driven outcomes.
Applicants must be Australian citizens, as this role requires the successful candidate to obtain a Baseline security clearance upon commencement.
You bring:
3–4+ years’ experience building and maintaining data pipelines using modern data stack tools (e.g. Databricks, Spark, dbt, Kafka)
Strong proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language (e.g. Python), with hands-on experience in distributed data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark
Experience working with cloud-based data platforms (e.g. Databricks, AWS Redshift)
Solid understanding of data modelling, ETL/ELT processes, data integration, orchestration, automation, and data warehousing
Experience applying CI/CD practices to build resilient, high-quality data pipelines
Knowledge of data governance, data quality, and security best practices
