Reporting to the Head of Coal Asset Projects and as a key member of the leadership team, the Director Projects – Goonyella Riverside Mine (GRM) Complex plays a critical role in shaping and delivering one of our major capital projects.
In this position, you will set the direction and lead the definition phase of the GRM Complex, with accountability for delivering project outcomes and positioning the project for successful execution. You will provide strong project management leadership across multidisciplinary teams, ensuring rigorous standards, clear governance, and alignment to strategic objectives. As the project progresses into execution, you will continue to lead with impact, driving performance, managing complexity, and ensuring safe, high-quality delivery that enables long-term operational success.
In this role you will be accountable for the following:
- Managing key stakeholders, including Business and Asset Leadership Teams, Project Steering Committees, governance groups, joint venture partners, and commercial partners.
- Confirming all inputs from the Project team are developed in compliance with both internal and external governance processes.
- Developing project risk and quality management plans within the aggregated functions to assure effective management of the project scopes of work.
- Providing leadership to ensure opportunities for capital efficiency and productivity improvements are identified and implemented within the project.
- Approving the portfolio of improvement initiatives in the Project’ value workstreams, monitoring the status of implementation and tracking the value obtained.
- Identifying and developing talent and capability, including a pipeline of talent for key positions.
- Clarifying resourcing needs through study and delivery phases, and the selected delivery model.
- Operations Management in preparation for the successful transition of the projects to Operations.
- Monitoring HSE compliance and applying appropriate methodologies / standards to effectively identify and mitigate HSE risks across the projects.
- Managing major contract execution and analysis to maximise operational and financial performance and mitigate exposure and risk.
- Exploring and iteratively reassessing best fit solutions, taking ownership of project decisions and outcomes, along with monitoring and managing impacts to value across the project lifecycle.
- Developing integrated project deliverables and the work across the project through interface management, stakeholder management, project risk management and dependency identification and management, from study phase through to close out.
- Developing and implementing program turnover processes and executing commissioning / handover activities to facilitate the successful commissioning of the project.
As the Director Projects – GRM Complex, you will be based in Brisbane, QLD. Frequent travel will be required.
You are an accomplished leader with a proven track record delivering major capital projects, bringing deep expertise in underground coal operations and a strong command of project management principles. You excel at establishing and maintaining robust project standards, methodologies, and governance, ensuring seamless integration across the full project lifecycle—from Studies and Engineering through to Delivery, Commissioning, and Operations Readiness.
A confident and collaborative stakeholder manager, you build trusted relationships across complex environments, driving alignment and functional excellence across multidisciplinary teams. You bring a disciplined approach to risk and quality management, alongside a passion for developing capability and preparing teams for operational success. With a continuous improvement mindset, you challenge the status quo, introduce innovative solutions at scale, and ensure projects transition effectively into execution and operations, always maintaining compliance with internal and external governance frameworks.
A tertiary qualification in Engineering, Project Management or a related field is required.
