A day in the life
As the General Manager, Engineering – Group Software Platform, you'll shape the foundations that enable engineering teams across PEXA to do their best work.
Your days will be varied, strategic and hands-on. You might start by reviewing platform performance and reliability metrics, then meet with engineering leaders to understand where teams are experiencing friction and identify opportunities to improve developer experience. You'll work closely with senior stakeholders to set priorities for platform services, infrastructure and engineering standards, ensuring they support our products today and scale for tomorrow.
You'll lead and inspire a high-performing team of engineering leaders, creating an environment where people can thrive, innovate and grow. You'll champion modern engineering practices, observability, resilience and automation, while balancing performance, reliability and cost outcomes.
You'll also collaborate with external partners and vendors, influence technology decisions across the organisation, and stay ahead of emerging trends in cloud, platform engineering and AI-enabled software development.
Most importantly, you'll help create the platforms, tools and engineering experiences that allow teams across Australia, New Zealand and the UK to deliver better outcomes for our customers.
About the role:
The General Manager, Engineering – Group Software Platform is responsible for setting the vision and strategy for PEXA's shared platforms, developer experience and core infrastructure. This role ensures the technology foundations that underpin our products remain secure, scalable, reliable and easy for engineers to use.
Leading a global team of engineering leaders and specialists, you'll bring a product mindset to platform engineering—treating internal engineering teams as customers and building services that improve productivity, reliability and innovation across the business.
Key capabilities for success:
- Platform and infrastructure strategy, including cloud-native platforms and large-scale engineering environments
- Engineering leadership and influence, with the ability to align teams around shared standards and outcomes
- Developer experience, productivity tooling and platform adoption at scale
- Operational excellence, observability and resilience engineering
- Commercial and vendor management, including strategic partnerships and technology investment decisions
- Experience partnering with teams on developing new approaches and tools to support agentic software engineering
What success looks like (6–12 months):
- Establishing a clear platform strategy aligned to PEXA's business and technology priorities
- Improving adoption of engineering standards and platform capabilities through measurable outcomes
- Enhancing platform reliability, resilience and observability across critical services
- Delivering improvements to developer productivity through tooling, automation and simplified engineering pathways
- Building a highly engaged leadership team and fostering a strong culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement
- Driving cloud optimisation and platform efficiency while maintaining service quality and scalability
