## Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Aeronautical Engineer to join our team and contribute to the design, development, and ongoing airworthiness of aircraft systems and components. The successful candidate will apply advanced engineering principles to support the full lifecycle of aviation projects, from initial concept through to operational deployment and maintenance. This role suits a detail-oriented professional with a strong technical background in aerospace engineering and a commitment to safety and performance excellence. Experience working within a regulatory aviation framework, particularly in the Australian context, will be highly regarded.
## Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop aircraft structures, components, and support equipment, ensuring all outputs meet safety, performance, and regulatory standards
- Collaborate with aero-engine specialists, systems engineers, and other technical disciplines to co-ordinate integrated aircraft design and resolve cross-functional engineering challenges
- Conduct thorough surveys and inspections of airframes and onboard equipment, identifying structural faults and anomalies through laboratory analysis, ground testing, and in-flight evaluation
- Evaluate aircraft performance by analysing flight test data, assessing aerodynamic characteristics, and verifying capability against defined operational requirements
- Develop and review technical documentation including engineering drawings, specifications, test plans, and maintenance procedures
- Apply engineering analysis techniques — including stress, fatigue, and structural analysis — to assess the integrity and longevity of aircraft components and systems
- Ensure all design and modification work complies with applicable airworthiness standards, including CASA regulations and relevant international standards such as EASA or FAA requirements
- Support the continuous airworthiness of aircraft by investigating defects, leading root cause analysis, and recommending corrective or preventive actions
- Liaise with manufacturing teams to oversee the production of components and assemblies, providing technical guidance to ensure designs are built to specification
- Contribute to the preparation and review of certification submissions, engineering orders, and modification proposals in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Monitor advances in aerospace materials, technologies, and engineering methodologies, applying relevant innovations to improve design outcomes and operational performance
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and graduate staff, supporting a culture of professional development and engineering excellence
## Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Aeronautical, Aerospace, or Mechanical Engineering from a recognised institution
- Eligibility for membership with Engineers Australia or equivalent professional engineering body
- Demonstrated experience in aeronautical or aerospace engineering, with exposure to aircraft design, structural analysis, or airworthiness assessment
- Solid understanding of aerodynamics, propulsion systems, aircraft structures, and materials science
- Proficiency in engineering analysis and design software such as CATIA, ANSYS, MATLAB, or equivalent tools
- Working knowledge of Australian and international aviation regulatory frameworks, including CASA, EASA, and FAA standards
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex technical data and communicate findings clearly
- High level of attention to detail and a rigorous approach to engineering quality and documentation
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to liaise across multidisciplinary teams and with regulatory bodies
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes within defined project timelines
## Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or postgraduate qualification in Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline
- CASA Part 66 Aircraft Maintenance Licence or relevant authorisations
- Experience with certification activities under CASR Part 21 or equivalent regulatory frameworks
- Familiarity with Military Airworthiness frameworks such as the Australian Defence Airworthiness Management System (ADAAMS)
- Previous experience in a defence, commercial aviation, or MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) environment
- Project management experience or formal qualifications such as PRINCE2 or PMP
- Exposure to composite materials, advanced manufacturing techniques, or additive manufacturing in an aerospace context
## Why Join Us?
- Work on meaningful, high-impact aviation projects that contribute directly to national aerospace capability and safety outcomes
- Access ongoing professional development opportunities, including funded training, conference attendance, and pathways to chartered engineering status
- Enjoy a flexible and supportive work environment that values work-life balance and employee wellbeing
- Be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team of engineers and technical specialists committed to innovation and excellence
